I think the show could do with a few more car reviews - but that said its still fantastic and i like every single episode. do i assume then that everyone who doesn't like topgear would rather watch 5th gear?

I missed it, but in general I really like the show. I find Clarkson funny, and the intereaction between the three presenters is great - almost like watching three mates in a pub chatting about cars. As for the format, it's a bit played out I suppose, but it never really fails to entertain. I think I'd be far less likely to watch if they started reviewing more cars TBH. I find 96% of modern cars utterly dull, I'm not in the market to buy one, and those that are wanting to buy can browse the internet or buy Auto Express etc to find out how many miles per gallon it can do, how many litres the boot can hold, and what finance deals are available. Having watched Top Gear of old on YouTube, it's just a monotonous drone of facts and figures

I think as long as you watch it for entertainment and not as a Fact based programme it's pretty good. It certainly the only show i've watched in weeks that makes me laugh out loud.

You know what I'd like to see?
I'd like them to do a 'retro' TopGear, where the presenters have to dress and present in the style of William Wooly-Cardigans, Beard Goffey et al.
Of course there would be minimal flouncey camera work, and lots of emphasis on how comfy the seats are in the latest Cavalier, or the 'eagerness' of this revised alfasud.
;D

Its still an entertaining enough show, compare it to wifeswap or celebrity chef gets bo11ocked by Gordon Ramsay all night or whatever and you might see what I mean.
Could do with a bit more variety, rather than just silly stunt, buy cheap car to smash up, wheelspin £500,000 car, the potential owner of which you don't even want to imagine.
I don't think a bit of unusual motorsport coverage or maybe buying a middle of the road hatchback and tweaking it on a budget would hurt if it was just thrown in and amongst, it would break things up a bit without turning it into a pipe & slippers show or putting any regular viewers off, but then again you never know what they`ve got planned for the rest of the series.

if those of you hate clarkson so much why do you watch top gear? I don't. The flydrive episiode was the first one I have attempted to watch in maybe 4 years. Even though it was nicely shot featuring my kind of old yank tat in one of my favourite parts of the world I could not bear to watch the whole show. If I got 15 - 20 minutes in that was it. The problem isn;t so much that its "not a factual programme" but that they frequently pass off opinion or even total lies as being the turth. Clarkeson does the same in his various columsn which I have occasionally read over the years. That and the fact that I actively dislike Clarkson and TBH Hammond isn't far behind. But that might be only because Clarkson has angried up my blood so much by this point that I'd happily lamp the Dalai Bleedin Lama... The other part of this arguement which makes me chuckle is the assumption that quantity is better than quality. The Ford Fiesta outsells the Bently Continental GT or the Ultima GTR so therefor it must be a better car, right? In the words of the song... The lowest common denominator rules Forget honesty Forget creativity The dumbest buy the mostest That's the name of the game Top Gear - "keeping Moronic Mondeo owners happy for 20 years"

IMHO its just the Jeremy and chums show now. Them doing all the things that their priveleged position allows them to do. Some shows are a bit samey I recon. Still a good watch though. The only reason I get annoyed at Clarkson and pals is when they're doing something really cool and I think "I wanna do that'!!" In the same way Moyles goes on about how he got in late from the pub and had a really great time with all his mates when ive been working my tits off .

IMO car reviews are boring! they need to be looking more at car culture. The stunts are a bit OTT nowerdays but its more entertainign than 99% of other stuff on telly so i wouldent like to see it go.

In the words of the song... The lowest common denominator rules Forget honesty Forget creativity The dumbest buy the mostest That's the name of the game That's the golden rule of ALL television. Watch a programme about anything you have more than a passing interest in, and you'll find it's full of generalisations and factual inaccuracies because the producers aren't enthusiasts, they are only interested in catering to Joe Public, Joanne Public and their 2.4 post-nuclear children. That's why I don't bother watching TV for more than a couple of hours a week these days, if I want to be entertained and informed I'll go on here or YouTube or anything that means I have control over what I watch...... ......but half of that two hours is spent watching TG, which says something....... ;D

Aye, I never really watch any of the car shows. I tend to watch history documentaries, some drama, CSI, that sort of thing and any decent movies although thats mainly DVD time. And the Sweeny on box set! Hee hee. Never got Life on Mars though.

The stunts are a bit OTT nowerdays but its more entertainign than 99% of other stuff on telly so I wouldent like to see it go. thats exactly it, the car content is rubbish, but some of its pretty entertaining. watch it as a car show, and you will hate it, watch it as an evenings light entertainment and its alright. but don't get me started on wilson, what a grade A peenarse. he realy gets under my skin, its just his un happy, never smiling, the world is so bad veiw on buying new and used cars... even if a car is a steal and a real bargain, he still wont show any emotion... its un natural and depressing. Clackson (typo, but its fitting so it can stay) kept talking about 'torques', 'my car has so many torques blah blah blah' is that not the same as talking about how many 'powers' a car has? and saying that somthing is 'quite a few distances long'. was it a poor annoying use of english, or is 'torques' actually a unit? if i is i take it all back, if it isnt, what happend to BBC english and all that.

He does it to illustrate the fact that he doesn't know what the hell they are - he readily admits it all the time. I find it guffaw-some.
It's intentional.

The car content isn't rubbish imo, it's overly opinionated, sometimes plain wrong and biased which makes the presenters feel like real people.
The other week during the American road trip Clarkson totally summed cars up for me and really he should be applauded with his comments about how he felt so great sat in that smelly old knackered Camaro and would rather be there than sat in an Enzo.
I don't actually think peoples beef is really TopGear and the presenters themselves, it's the effect the show has had on the general public. It seems the show has caused everyone to be into cars and it's all become a bit of a bandwagon. Sadly the three are huge opinion formers for many and I can understand the frustration in one of them saying something that isn't true and many people taking it as gospel.
