Had it been 2 months ago, I would have been interested but got a set of pepper pots to put on it soon (just gotta sort out some alloy wheel nuts and a puncher) Look forward to updates on your 309!

Love to see a 309, they don't seem to have survived as well as the 205s. I have very fond memories of them, my parents had one from new in 1987 (1.3 GL), which later became my first car in the late 90s. I always thought the 309 was such an underrated little car, with superb ride and handling, much superior to the mk2 Astra and mk4 Escort and with much more interior space too.

My Grandad had a string of 309s including one in that colour with those very seat covers! I remember the fuss when he upgraded to the d turbo!

How is this coming along mate? I didn't realise I had reply's on the thread, regularly on here, but don't check my thread often! Well I'll do an update (of what there is of one) and try to do it in time, with photos of course! Before the 309 was taken off the road mid July, I had done an oil change (not quite sure when this was, just found the photo on my phone) and also trial fitted one of the better of the pepper pots that I have. Photo with the 309 and my old. 306 hdi (now my sisters) I also attended for the first time "retro fundraising" which is a charity event in the village I'm from in Somerset for cars made before 1995, had an absolutely brilliant day including almost getting lost on the 30 mile convoy before all cars were parked up at the local rec.... Only have a few photos from the day back in July . The 309 parked with my mates escort xr3i cab.

So the 205 has been on the road since mid July, and I have to report, it has been almost a constant pain! I love how it drives, and of course the fuel economy, but it has some issues. ... Firstly beginning of August planned with the other half and few friends to go all the way up to Liverpool for a night out, I wasn't even worried about the 205 getting there and back, I thought "it's an xud after all!" Well got up early did all the checks and filled it up, as I pulled of the main road into the housing estate went into second quite early, and it lost all power for few seconds then cut out, got it started again checked everything and it seemed fine with no running issues, then it cut out at a service station, again, got it going with the hand pump (primer pump), windscreen wiper then came off twice on the motorway in heavy rain and it cut out again in heavy traffic in centre of Liverpool! Got home fine and found online it was likely only the fuel filter, a job which I hadn't done, went to do it, fraudfords provided me with the wrong one and on re-assembling it the primer pump seal went.... £120 later, it had a brand new primer pump/fuel filter housing, but the problem still remained, I put up with 3-4 attempts to start (with using primer pump) and revving it when stationary for a whole month, then got rubber fuel lines replaced with resolved it, between this the drivers window sometimes won't work (switch I'm sure) central locking only works now and again and the demister fan doesn't work (think it's burnt out) since then last month, the brakes started to stick, I knew brakes wern't great so presumed it was a sticking calliper, took to a local garage, £195 later it was discovered the brake lines were also leaking, so whole new brake lines, pads and fluid, all is well! I've done second oil change in 5k recently as I think previous owner who had it for a year didn't do one. Hopefully, (touch wood) it's running okay currently! Few pics I've taken of it, and it's poor paintwork! With a friends 206 It's the first car I've owned that I haven't worries about the paint work, or keeping it clean, I even put it through a automated car wash! (My pet hate) Spotted another 309, a high miler dturbo, couldn't resist taking a photo... And leaving a note saying if they ever sell it or scrap it, call me, and I left my mobile number (I may have an issue with buying old slow Peugeots developing!

I thought I'd do a huge update (a lot has happened since the last update!) where to begin... Last January through a friend of my dads, heard of a mk2 metro that an old man wanted rid of as he was giving up driving.. details were limited but told it had 35k and he wanted £300 for it... Went to look at it, as a joint project with my dad, low mileage, was a little crusty in some places and both outer sills had poor repairs... Ended up buying it for £250. With the long term plan to take it off the road and tidy her up. On bringing her home, this highlighted the need of rear brakes needing attention, front wheel bearing and a new rad... Unfortunately since buying last january, she's sat unused in a dry garage... One day, all the jobs will be done and she'll be moted! ... Here's a few photos of the metro. She's a 1.3 clubman L, champagne colour with a beige interior... Best combo right?

Then around March time a work colleague mentioned her neighbour was going to scrap a 306 as it had head gasket failier, I went round and looked at it, it was a ph1 XRD with 88k completely mint and with 3 months mot, at the time scrap value was £70, next evening I handed over £70 and towed it home! Got it running few days later, it ran like a dream, for an XUD anyway, no mayo signs, but would start pressurising after 5 minutes of running (this pressure would remain even when left for days!) anyway, after few weeks, decided it would be best to sell. As I was never going to get round to doing it myself (without the knowledge especially) so I cleaned it, put an honest eBay listing, and it sold to a local guy, for 225! To say I was happy is an understatement! He fixed it and I still see him driving around in it now!

Less than a week after the 306 sold, someone at work wanted a hand helping his girlfriend look for a new car, it then came to light she had an MG ZS with again head gasket failier, she planned to scrap it, despite it still driving fine (simply just using water) she found a new car (an awful 'kalos') anyway week later I had agreed to save this MG from the crusher (days before she was also going to call the local scrap man) I agreed to buy it for £100. I knew with this that I would just simply clean it, put an honest listing and put it on eBay. Started it at what it owed me, and rather than getting loads of messages asking me what I would take to buy it now, I put (what I thought) anbicious buy it now price of £300. That weekend I got a call from a guy in Surrey asking to come and view it, and explained that he would be coming in a rover 400, and whether he could park it at mine for a week (if he brought the mg) and collect his 400 a week later. I agreed that this was fine, the guy arrived, looked over it for 5 minutes and then handed over £300, no haggling!) Here's a few photos of the mg. absolutely loved the car!

So, the guy who brought the mg, made a comment before he left about if I knew anyone who wanted his 420 (GSI)... After a few g&ts that night, and looking at it through the kitchen window at it, I text him about it.. Anyway after a sober phone call the next day, the agreement was made for me to buy it for 350, to save him driving a 4 hour round trip to collect it. The car in question was a rover 420 GSI, full spec including full leather, electric everything including cruise control with 86k and 5 months mot. As you'll gather from my thread, my plan has been to convert my 309 to a manual DT, this was booked in August, I knew a needed a gap car, this seemed perfect. I put it on the road in July and used it whilst the conversion took place (update to come) I used the 420 for 3 months and done around 3k in it, the only thing that went wrong was the back box falling off. I got it moted (passed without issue) to sell it and cleaned it, ready for photos for eBay... At this time, the starter motor went! (Was furious at this point) £120 later it had a new starter motor and was on eBay. This car wasn't as easy to sell, had few time wasters... One of which test drove it for 20 minutes (after selecting buy it now on eBay) filed out the v5, to then turn round and try and knock the price down... Safe to say, this didn't go down well and he walked away as he "wasn't sure"! Eventually it sold to a local guy for a lot less than than it owed me (after the water pump started to leak on the viewing!) still see it around most days as its now a local Pizza Hut delivery car!
