I thought after looking and everyone's posts the past few months, I would post about my current project!
Ill try not to bore anyone too much, but ill start from the beginning!
August last year I decided to finally get my self my first project car after getting a council garage and getting a small bonus at work. After having 2 306's I fancied a older Peugeot, I bidded on a few but lost them, but a phase1 1.6 auto came up on eBay in Somerset about 5 miles from my parents house in as new condition expect the gearbox, which would only drive in first and reverse, it looked so mint, I didn't waste my time/money traveling to look at it for it to go over my measly budget of £300... the auction ended without any bids and I messaged to owner and bagged it for £200!... my intentions was to get replacement auto box fitted, service it and mot and sell on.
I got the train down to my parents and my dad came with me, it was even better than expected, boot and back seats looked completely un-used and the engine ran like a peach and backed up with a huge amount of mots/service history. the guy explained his grandmother had brought it from new, and had always been garaged but shortly after the gearbox issue, she was sadly put in a home.
I handed over £200 of notes and took the keys, drove it off the drive on to the road and then called the AA for recovery! 5 hours later recovery was there, and got it back home and put it in the garage. the next day, I went over to have a closer look at her and couldn't believe how tidy she was. This is a photo I took the next day.
Over the next few months I got a replacement gearbox, changed coolant, oil spark plugs. By Christmas, after being completely bored of my daily runner, a 306 hdi, I decided that I wanted to get her on the road for my daily. The plan to get the already brought gearbox, get her mot'ed then sell the 306, with those funds, buy a 205 td for a doner vehicle and get the 309 converted then to a td manual.
This is still my plan, due to tight funds, it hasn't progressed much recently, but on Saturday, she will be taken to a guy to look at the gearbox to give me a quote to get it fitted, so providing all goes well, over the next couple of weeks, the gearbox should be done meaning she can be tax and tested the end of may!
After researching it a bit more (after thinking that a phase 1 registered in 1991 was quite late as the phase 2 had been out for a while at this point) I have found out it had spend the first couple of years of its life in France and only covered 800 miles! the V5 states it was previously registered in another country and the original sales receipt from 1991 where she paid £8000 for it, states first registered in Paris and mileage was just over 800! According to other websites the SR auto was only made between 87-89 so she should be on roughly a f plate. And according to howmanyareleft.com there are only 9 on the road and 3 sorn (including this one)
Anyway....Here are some more photos of the 309!
The mint boot!
here is a photo with the 309 with my current boring daily runner!
The jack has never been used
After comparing the make/model of the Tyre's fitted to the rear and spare, it appears they are the ones fitted in the factory (these have now been replaced!
Needs a spot of lowering to say the least!.. have some gti lowing springs ready to be fitted
Box file full of manuals, every mot and service (all completed at the same garage in Exmouth since 1991!)
After spraying the steelies and spending the day, washing, clay bar-ing and waxing, she didn't come up too badly!... just need to sort out the bumpers now!
Fitted 3rd brake light... (I know not really period, but safety first!) and also a set of pressed number plates as the originals were looking a bit tired!
I look forward to your comments and opinions!
cheers
