Sorry for being off topic about cars but wondering if my fellow car nuts can point me clear. Due to not being able to find work and having sold pretty much everything that's not nailed down, I am rapidly approaching being homeless Have been desperately searching around for any ideas on what to do. Just wondered if anyone has an advice/experience with being in my situation. What are the legalities of sleeping in a car/camper full time at the side of the road? I still have my Zafira but its hardly the most descreat for sleeping in. Any help muchly appreciated, at least I can get free wifi in McD's carpark rofl

There's loads of people already sleeping in vehicles all over Brighton, just have a look up some of the back roads. Don't know the legal situation but it's just the same as lorry drivers parking up and sleeping in the cab surely?

Thats real curse word dude... Theres some forums dedicated to it dude. I cant remember the names of them but they are there. Basically van living.
I think you are ok as long as its mobile, and theres a law on how long you stay in the same place. Me and the wife were actively considering this option with a van due to how curse word bills and money constraints are ....
As for money, I was jobless for a while, And going round the tips, bootsales, Grab some bargain bikes, Old radios things like that... Ebay em... Mopeds go well too and kids sell em cheap when they outgrow them... other peeps will buy them as field bikes..... I was making realy good money for a few months.. Only not doing it now due to having found work.
All the best mate... Fingers crossed for ya. Hope it all works out.

with all the safety dooodah about not driving tired I'm sure if you get questioned about what your doing just say your tired and didnt feel safe to drive. ok they might collar you alot but move around i guess. (a guy does that in a van here see him moving it about day in day out)
doesnt seem like its going to fix any problems for you though.... surely its better getting on the dole and finding bedsit to give you a fixed abode to work from should things turn in your favour. without an adress how can you keep the car going legally.

you need to go and see a Housing Officer urgently.
absolutely do not let it slide or you will be deemed "intentionally homeless" and the local authority will owe you no duty.
realistic outcome - some help from the "private rented" team withhin the housing department. help will not extend to finding a place but they will be able to brief you on what needs to be done, the paperwork required, your eligibility, your likely housing benefit entitlement, etc.
housing may even operate a "most preferred" list of landlords that you can approach. if you're very lucky, they may even operate a deposit underwriting scheme
by a perverse trick of statute, you will need an address before you apply for housing benefit (i know, i know) but a housing officer can advise on workarounds

Visit your local citizens advice to get help and advice but make sure you get help from someone with experience of housing issues. If you wish to relocate to Scotland I have a 4 bed semi I can do a deal on but you will have "dodgy" neighbours, also if you are an outdoor work type may have a line on some part time work or if you have "trade" papers might be able to arrange full time sub contract work. There has been some good advice on here. In this day and age no one need be homeless if you speak with the proper people to help. If you go to the job centre and make a fuss they will try to find work. Sign on with agencies, the pay is curse word but for the future people like to employ people they trying rather than sitting at home doing nothing
You are also coming up to the time that seasonal workers are taken on in hotels for example and these sometimes offer accomadation with the job.
Above all be flexible in hours you work and where and what you will do. It might help to say what your skill set is and experiance.
If there are any special reasons you are finding getting work hard, like previous illness, remember employers cannot ask question that are not related to the job.
Above all stay positive

Move to an area that has more work? Don't go intentionally homeless or you will get zero help Good luck

It was some 10/15 years ago but when i was over in england i remember all my british friends, and even some from outside the uk had houses thanks to the so called housing benefit, so unless laws changed radically in your situation i cant see why it shouldnt happen. The Scotland offer would be very tempting thou....very.
Oh yeah, best of luck. i know very well how shiz can turn to full shiz quickly.

Benifits in this country are a weird old thing, You pretty much have to give up/ not help yourself at all in order to get anything.. Ive lost my job in the past, But been unintitled to anything due to living with my parents.. Also if you leave a job of your own accord, (even if forced out) You have to wait a certain number of months before you can claim..

lets be honest, apart from some very nice people on here and like minded forums. then this country is fairly curse word for people who are struggling, I was forced out of a job a couple of years ago and got zero help from the state, even though I had paid into it for twenty years, one particular question I remembered whilst applying for benefit was, "are you currently on remand". yes they let me out to apply for the dole!!!!!!!. this was when I walked out and found a curse word job till something better came along. my advice would be move to Scotland.

Hope it works out for you man!
In these situations you just gotta work out what would be best for you I guess. Tried seeking gov help etc? Saying that this country is curse word, it only gives benefits to the ones who bite from the hand that feeds them it seems. I can't see any problem with sleeping in lay-by's legally.
Hope it works out mate!

Thanks for all the advice. I am now into my last tenner, but have been awarded job seekers. Sadly this won't cover my rent.
I have got a job interview for Butlins tomorrow and they offer on site accommodation, so fingers crossed

Thanks for all the advice. I am now into my last tenner, but have been awarded job seekers. Sadly this won't cover my rent. I have got a job interview for Butlins tomorrow and they offer on site accommodation, so fingers crossed Probably shouldn't say this but if you are in private rented and don't pay the rent realistically its going to take 3 to 6 months to get you evicted, could you rent out any spare room(s) you have to raise some cash? I take it you've applied for local housing allowance as well as all the other benefits you possibly can at the same time as JSA? LHA should be backdated from the date you apply for it so it is worth doing + if your landlord knows you've applied for it they are less likely to begin eviction proceedings - depending on local authority you can state you want it paid directly to your landlord which might help convince them you aren't just going to keep the money when it comes through. Its a sorry situation to be in, I hope the interview goes well.
