I live in the same flat as my landlady, but have my own flat if that makes sense, just share kitchen. She refused to sign any housing benefit forms as she doesn't declare my rent(tax dodge) i was even asked if anyone asks i am her bf I just about managed to pay my rent by selling the last bits of my stuff, so will have a room till 1st June, hopefully the jsa will come in so i can find fuel and food soon. She is quite hard ass'd as she has been messed around in the past, plus is a coppa so is always right To add to this my zafira has a charging fault and found out the turbo is on its last legs.....Guess things can only get better

That doesn't matter tell her to sign or you ring the revenue, and or inform the powers that be in the police shes knowingly evading taxation! She knows theres sod all she can do if you don't pay anyway, anything she tries to do thats slightly iffy will have a far bigger risk to her career. Imagine ringing 999 to tell them you believe there is an illegal evection going on and all her mates turn up, not going to look good on her is it?
Her income from you would be exempt under the rent a room scheme anyway but should be declared! You should be able to apply for a hardship loan while your JSA is being sorted - like has been said previously you NEED to speak to a housing officer ASAP. If/ when you do move drop your LL in the curse word with Inland Revenue anyway, there's absolutely no reason you should have to sell your stuff to pay her rent when shes on the fiddle.
EDIT sorry if that comes over a bit strong but that situation really really pisses me off

Tribal living forum has some good info about living in vehicles too, I think you need to be a forum member to browse though now, some lovely vehicles no there too.
Popuptoaster have you got any further with your camper plan?

my mate is looking for a casual worker in his shop in brighton if thats any help.
he has the kodak shop on london road, he is the only person working there currently so hes doing it single handedly.
if you know a bit about cameras it would help obviously, maybe give him a try. free parking nearby too.

Your landlady is breaking the law (or by the sounds of it multiple laws).

Popuptoaster have you got any further with your camper plan? I solved my problem and don't need to live in it full time now so I'm downsizing it in favour of a holiday van thats easier to store. When not being used.

I got the job! Its barely enough wage to cover my outgoings, but it's a step on the ladder. Complete change of work for me from vehicle repair to security, but enjoying it so far........the large amount of eye candy also helps lol.
Just got to survive to the end of the month and then i'll be back on track. Many thanks to everyone for your advice and support, it meant a lot. Gary

Glad to see it's sorted and pleased that RRers had time, advice and offers to help a fellow member.
That said, I'd rather not turn RR into Facebook!
Good luck with the new job!
