The Wankel (snigger) rotary engine only has three moving parts! So there, lol. And here they are; They also double up as a nice art installation. Once you've been through a few engine, you start finding other uses for them ;D

Fords Essex Engine was originally designed so it could be used for diesel or petrol applications, but diesel versions never made it to production

The first production car with a "modern" type lay out of controls was the Cadillac Type 53 - Clutch, Brake, Accelerator, gearstick in the centre console and a hand brake - along with a left hand side or right hand side option for where the steering wheel sits.

What perfect timing Davy, 'cos I just came here to say "Princess Anne had several of those, and still has one of those". She still owns one of only 77 Middlebridge Scimitars. (Middlebridge bought the rights to manufacture the Scimitar in the late eighties, before they too went bust.)

During development for the original Mini, the proposed engine size was 950 cc. However, Leonard Lord, chairman of BMC thought that the 90 mph top speed was excessive and reduced the engine size to 848 cc to gain a more manageable speed (for the time) of 72 mph
