Best thread ever!!!!
Mitch, i'm sure i used to see your matt black, chopped minor driving around wickford about 7 or 8 years back. It was in red oxide at the time and at least one time i saw it it had no glass in it so i'm assuming that must have been about when it was chopped.
Seth, do you have any more pics of the blue and white one? I remember seeing it for sale in the back of SM a few times and always thought it looked spot on apart from the wires.
There used to be a 300E van around these parts about 15 years back called purple people eater. Any relation to the minor?

Seth, do you have any more pics of the blue and white one? I remember seeing it for sale in the back of SM a few times and always thought it looked spot on apart from the wires. This was how it looked when he bought it. We came up with the idea of the partial respray in blue together. I have no underbonnet shots unfortunately but it was a stock 3.5 Rover lump with a holley carb and auto box. Rear end was Jag independent. Rear wires were proper ones but the fronts were "baskets". He drove it daily for what feels like a couple of years. I'm pretty sure he ended up selling it fairly locally in NW London but I've never seen it again since. Fun times...

I owned the Purple People eater Minor PU for several years, when it was re-painted white with red flames - got some pics somewhere if I can sort how to post! I used to drive it to work everyday back in about 1983.
The car was originally built by El Ritchie then it was sold to Dave Biggles ward who had it painted white etc - we were all members of the Custom Minor Club, which had loads of memebers. Run by Russ Smith and Nick Diss.
I swapped the PU for my first car, a traveller and fitted a 1275 and 28/36 Weber - ran low 18's at the Pod!
I foolishly swapped the car for a 100E and regretted it especially as the new owner ran it in!
The pic posted is of the replica, built by Simon Mower and featured in SM - the car had the original PPE pick up bed and was finished properly - unlike the original! Even had a white tuck and roll interior.
Last I heard of the replica Dave Coleman had it in the Beckenham Kent area. Think it was re-painted satin black. It's disapeared since - I've tried tracing it and I'd have it back in a snap.
I've just bouaght a twin cam powered van and I'm having my wife's chopped and twin cammed saloon re-built as a surprise. It's hard trying to not get all excited and tell her! And yeah it's ok posting it on here - she doesn't do car forums. I hope....

The grill is that plastic mesh stuff to give a bit more under-bonnet space. The wheels are..... have a guess first, they're off a Retro-Rides favourite. I'll say at the bottom of the post:) Engine is the Fiat/Lancia T/C. Doors, wings, boot and front panel are fibreglass. Sierra Cosworth type bonnet vents blended in to bonnet. Debadged. Seats are S class Merc electric ones gotten of the bay cheap. To do, megasquirt, cam and maybe M45 supercharger. Saloons and Travellers are unitary construction while the vans and pickups have a separate chassis. The engine bay was originally designed for a flat 4 (no, not that one ) so is quite short back to front. A front member going across firewall above the gearbox limits the size of engine fitting in without extensive reconstruction. Hence the popularity of the relatively short Fiat T/C, and in earlier times, Ford V4s and V6s. Conversely the trans tunnel comes out easily with bolts Peugeot 205GTi 15" speedlines painted black (antibling) with s/s copies of original Minor hubcaps

I'm pretty sure the rubber-winged van is Robin Beardmore's. Madmog, great idea with those rims, wish I'd thought of that! Archieboy, what's that motor in yours, 4AGE?

John,
I have pics of my/Chris' old V8 Minor above my desk, which I still stare at everday and wish, everyday, i still had it -especially as i've got the last ever pics of it the day before the body went to the scrapper. Yep I still get very emotional.
However, I've just bought a T/C-powered van that need minimal work for the MOT and Tony Boone's currrently got my wife's chopped two-door, which we're putting back on the road for her as a surprise.
i still want the Purple People eater back (Simon's clone) and Robin's PU too - if only we knew where it was, eh?
By the way - Tony currently has Hot Lemon.
On a personal not too - what was that flywheel I had off you from? can you remember?
cheers,
Jon

Hot Lemon, Was that the yellow convertible with chopped screen that used to come from Canvey Island? If it was that was the car that got me into Minors many many years ago.

I think I owe a 15 year old apology...
In the early 90s I grew a hatred for a number of people doing up their mum's old moggies - completely unjustified but I was a beetle nut and saw them as an inferior option. This thread has so many different and fantatsic takes on what can be done with a bit of imagination. It makes me want a Moggy and feel so bad for those adolescent thoughts.

Hot lemon - that's the one! Built by Jon Webster, now of Webster Race cars and ran a 289, whiche ended up running 10's in Wilf Stacey's Gone Krazy chopped MkII Zody.
Hot Lemon's being rebuilt after it was bought off Ebay and sadly painted Ford Citrine Yellow - and, sacreledge, over the Hot Lemon cartoon too - some people have no roots!
Will be back on the road with blown small block Ford and should be a real handful!
Remember the big block powered split screen yellow two door with flip body that used to be a bout at the same time? Hung around with Pinball I seem to remember.
I'll post some pics of my past and current Minors if I can work out how to post! Someone tell a know nothing snapper how please!
Cheers,
Jon

Jon, What flywheel ?? !!! I guess it will be Fiat, either 2 litre or 1600, easy to tell if you have both as the clutch is smaller on the 1600. Also the 2 litre has M12 flywheel bolts, the 1600 M10, but often the 1600 flywheel was used on the 2 litre as the clutch was smaller so more clearance to the rack. The lad who owns Robin`s pickup in or around London called in last year but only M & D were in. His parents live locally. I will see if Robin has any contact details. Oh yer, rumours going around that an MX5 Minor is being built, any body know anything? John PS to post a pic. First the pic must be on a website somewhere with a web address. Then "[ img][/img]" with the web address inc http// in the middle. Or do proper reply, not quick and use the "insert image" button. This just writes the [/img] bit for you. Simple eh? www.beardmorebros.co.uk/Images/Home%20page%20images/finished_frontWEB.jpg[/img
