Well, after reading a lot on here, never having posted anything, I'll finally post my project As stated in the title i have a beautifull green volvo 164 from 1970. My beauty! About 9 months driving her I decided I wanted to restore her, to preserve her. Now, about 2 years after buying her we are prepping to get her a thorough media blast. Somewhere in the meantime I also bought a donorcar.. PlansThe idea is to make it kind of a Deluxe-type. I really hate some of the details in this luxury car, so we will be making that luxury. I.e.; the plastic woodsticker on the dash will be replaced with veneer. The motor will, at some point, have modern petrol and gas injection. (MS/EMS/KDFI alike) Build dayrunning lights into the headlight Xenon Updated suspension etc, etc.. In the meantime I am restoring parts at home, doorlocks, electrics, building a new wiring loom.. I will start with some pictures, because i just updated 2 forums and my blog, so I'm a little bit bored with writing at the moment

Some of your photos don't seem to be working, which is a shame. I will look in agian in a while to see if they're working.
It looks a good project and doesn't seem too rusty for a car of its age. They have a certain nobleness of look, the 164, and a total luxury overload will work well!

Could you tell me what pictures are not working? The first couple or just random ones? Will look into it!
Offcourse it has some rust, but just the regular spots, nothing too bad.

Yes, it is those earlier pictures. I had a look at your set on Flickr - it's going to be a very comprehensive restoration - I'm looking forward to reading about it! David

Nice to see another Volvo 164 getting a resto...
You have a Volvo 164 Deluxe or ''E'' and not a DL...
Mine is one of the 147 ever imported to Portugal so I think I have something special...
Keep us posted on the progress you're making and any questions just ask...

Hi Bro. ;D As Cesar said. Nice to see another 164 on the board. We are growing. Will keep following on this tread. Its funny You are calling it "she", since for me it looks more like "he" ;D But everyone has it own thoughts. Good luck, patients, skills and money to get it back to road. Thumbs up!!!!

Actually, there never was a 164 Deluxe, only an E or the normal one. But, as said, I will be aiming for something Deluxe-style. Progress: Tonight busy measuring up wiring loom, so I know how much cables to buy more or less. And maybe I'll have a new wiring loom then in a few weeks

@cesar: I believe you if you say so, never heard of it before. Could you tell me what the difference is between a normal/Grand luxe/Deluxe?
Made some preparations to remove the rear axle this weekend. The car is on a huge ass cart now, moves alot easier than wheels! Almost finished measuring up the wiring loom, will be rebuilding that soon..!
Hope to make some pictures this weekend.

Please do put some picutures for us to keep motivated, since that blooody winter doesnt want to backup. And to tinkle with car in -10 is not fun.

Well, found a new job, good and bad; always in weekends, so little time for serious jobs but the plus is the money to work on the car of course Little has happend, just some polishing and cleaning jobs, as I can do those at home. One job is done however! The wiring loom is all measured up. So I will be ordering some 150 meters of cables soon... But ok, some motivational cleaning pics Before During After That's quiet a difference! And I think you are taking the cleaning a little bit to far when you are cleaning the backside of switches! And tomorrow I am going to pick up a rotisserie for the 164 Like this; link.marktplaats.nl/673425994

Nice to see that you made some progress...
They only made 2 versions of the 164, the ''Deluxe'' in twin stromberg carb and the ''E'' for the fuel injected. All had power steering and leather interior from factory...
Keep the updates coming...

Just ordered about 170 meters of wiring.. Turned out not to be that expensive, little bit more than 100 euros including shipping from germany.
Also started with preparing to weld. Will post some pictures of that soon!

That's strange, I thought that I had already responded... Yeah, it specifically for 164, because I measured up the loom myself and that we figured out what you will need to make a new loom. Well, here some pics then: Just trying how it will fit, and what to cut out.. And 170 meters of cable seems a lot, but really is not that much..
