I had a similar thing with Eagle star, My first year of insurnace showed I had a claim on my record. A car I had never and have never owned, 8 months before I started driving. They couldn't remove it either.
Whatever insurance companies are, they are a bunch of complete and total ones.

Highway? Don't talk to me about those robbing bar-stewards! See a much earlier posting about what happened to my lovely E30 as a result of their lazy incompetence.

I had a similar problem with Firebond - although they admitted straight away they had taken it, it took some months and several phone calls for the money to actually re-appear in my account.

Problem is, everybody wants the cheapest possible car insurance. When people are asking its always just about the premium isn't it. When people ask asking for insurance its never "which company gives the best service then?"

Spot on, and when theres £100's in it its understandable. There was pence in it for me, I chose Lanc over Flux as they seemed friendlier, irony!
We gould do with a definative list put together, its a question that gets asked a fair bit and we do need special insurance in a lot of cases

I've just won a long wrangle with 'Post Office car insurance'. I took out a policy and sent them my ncd proof, they lost it then scooped £450 off my card for not supplying a NCD!!!! Shysters. Then when i re-supplied it they only honoured half of it, trotting out LOADS of different excuses for why they could not honour the full 5 years. Now after two months of arguing with them at least twice a week they have agreed to honour it. What a shower of b@st4rds.

When people ask asking for insurance its never "which company gives the best service then?" Well said, this is sadly what we do with a lot of services. We just drive the price down to the point where we are actually ruining it for ourselves.

I agree this is true for a lot of things, but it's not like car insurance is cheap IMO. I couldn't compare buying a nice TV from B&O, say, and a cheap no-name one from Tescos with 'good' car insurance and 'bad'. It doesn't seem to have much relevance how much you pay - the insurers are still rubbish.

Thats the problem. I hear continually that car insurance is a loss making market. A few large companies actually pulled out of the market completely.
Not sure what the answer is.
My old man used always to be with Norwich Union. They were more expensive but they handled claims brilliantly. Litterally just like it says on the tin. Just what you'd want from an insurer. But they have also gone down the cut-price route more recently.

^^^Could the answer be all the uninsured twerps^^^ A couple of weeks back there was a story in the Metro about road tax and the like. Supposedly 2million (yikes) drivers are using our roads un-taxed everyday. Of these 45% were found to already be banned or have a criminal record there fore don't give a sh*t. It then went on to say how another !5% of the 2M had no insurance. NOw forgive me if i'm wrong but surely no Tax no insurance because they aren't paying for the privelege to use the roads in the first place!! IN general ins companys are Ghey though. Rant over.

Theres a bunch of things with insurance....
If 15% of 2m people don't have insurance, thats 300,000 people. Assume that the average policy cost would be £500 to them. Thats £150,000,000 in lost revenues to the insurers. They don't operate as charities, they need to make that money back somewhere and so we have to pay it in our premiums...
Claim "loading" or "Padding". So your car was stolen, suddenly it has £2000 worth of stereo, a £300 sat nav, and oh, all my wifes' jewelry was in the glove box...
False claims - sufficient of an issue that the ABI has spent something like £4million setting up a false claims unit to deal with the problem. This is where people go round with disconnected brake lights deliberately having accidents to claim off your insurance...
PI Claims - huge rise in personal injury claims against insurers over the last few years. "compensation culture" affects you premium too.
And I think the general standard of driving has fallen, I think there are more accidents (I certainly see more cars driving round with big dents in them)
So yeah, I think the insurance companiues genuinely have some issues which are affecting their business. And ultimately that affects us as customers because we get a shabby service as they try and cut costs and then they raise out premiums.
I have no issue with paying for insurance. Its one of those things you have to have. I would like to see sme more effective regulation and maybe a tier system. tier one, cheap and cheerful. Total PITA if you have to claim on them. tier two, competant companies who will do what they say they will. Tier three, some kind of enhanced services like courtesy car delivery and all that.
If there was some honesty in the pricing you would stand a chance. Just paying more for you premium doesn't mean you are with a better company.
