Saw this in a video on bookface, and wanted to find out a bit more about it, I mean who in their right mind would rally an Esprit, a car not known for its rugged build? You need to hear the thing, but unfortunately I can't seem to link the facebook video on to here (any ideas?) Photos and info shamelessly stolen from a Lotus forum The car was originally rallycrossed by Dimi Mavropolous in the late 70s. It subsequently came into the ownership of Terry Maynard and has been rallied by him since 1980. Its actually a Europa chassis, with a rover V8 and a silhouette body of the Esprit. The car uses a Hewland DG300 gearbox from an Indy car and it was built like this from new. Terry restored the Lotus Esprit for 2009 to be used at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2009 in the forest stage, Dimi drove this car for several years in 70-80s and Terry won 4 years of BRDA championships in the esprit the last being in 1989, Manfred Parisch and Herbert Breiteneder also campaigned Esprits in Rallycross in 1984.

Saw this in action for the first time at Curborough yesterday at the 1st meeting of the Group B Rallying Legends group. Looked to be a handful on tarmac, what it must be like on the loose stuff i dread to think. Sounded awesome as well.

God there's 2 rallycross hero's from my past.
Didn't Dimi go on to use an ex. group b audi for his rallycrossing exploits, and I think Terry went down the Sierra route.
Sometimes looking back I realise how lucky I have been living so close to a circuit,

For posting a video off facebook, I think it'll work to find the link to it, and right-click, open link in new tab/window. That way you get the video's page, rather than it in a pop-out thingy. I don't think you can embed it like youtube videos though, just link to the page.
That esprit looks awesome, I'm trying to work out if it's bob-tailed or if the rear axle's just much further back than a normal esprit.

Yeah, the person who put it on facebook must have it set to only work for their friends. Bad times Damn I want a Europa so badly it hurts. I'm seriously considering ditching the Mini shell for my Mini build and using a Europa outer skin instead... decisions decisions. It makes sense in just about every way other than being less crazy. hmmm.

I saw this at the Festival of Speed a few years ago, the sound was incredible. If a Stratos is one of the all time greats, no reason that an Esprit could be made to work I reckon.

Haha, that would be amazing, it's a shame the wheelbases and cockpit shape are so different. I'd love to do that! ;D
