I've just been talking to a mate of mine about cars, as y'do, and in the course of the conversation the Yugo Sana came up. If you blinked in the early 1990s you might have missed the Sana. It was a car made in Yugoslavia on FIAT Tipo underpinnings, it didnt sell here in huge numbers and when the war happened in Yugoslavia it disappeared from the market. Rumour has it that it wasn't the best car in the world So tell me about them, I'm curious. Are there any still around? I've not seen one, either for sale or on the road, for at least a decade but some must have survived.

I believe the car was based around one of the original ideas for the Fiat Tipo.

Sorry, but it just plain sucks............ It really is a nasty looking car + if it drives like any other Yugo, well it probably just compounds it!

I've often wondered about these as well. I don't think I've ever seen one anywhere!
They do bear a striking resembelance to the ZX. So do they use Fiat engines?

Yugo sana was known in its domestic market as the Florida and was based heavily on fiat underpinings and was sold for 2 years in yugoslavia before being imported to the uk almost as the war had started so to find one is a rare occurance i think it was styled by guigaro which IIRC styled the ZX. The last time i saw one was in a scrappy looking very sorry for itself.

I'm inclined to go with Slater on this one, so-cr@p-it's-cool.
That's not to say I'd buy one if I saw it because I have no need for one, but the conversation last night made me a little curious.

One thing made me laugh on the Zastava Wikipedia page, there was a plan to import their latest car to the US as "Zastava Motor Works" or "ZMW". That's "Zee-Em-W" if you're american.

There used to be a Yugo dealer in Redditch, one of the salesmen used to drink in the same pub as me, I remember him coming up to the pub in it, I remarked that it looked horrific and he replied 'you want to drive it....it's even worse than that'. Cool though now in an ironic way, because they were just so incredibly bad. I've just noticed how it bears an uncanny resemblance from some quarters to the CityRover.......

Friends of my grandparents had one, just a base model, in red. I remember them having an little accident just after the troubles in yugoslavia started and they had no option but to write it off, or have panels hand-made! Mechanical bits were available but nothing cosmetic.

My auntie had one, she clacked it into something and bust all the lights on the front. So she bought another one for £25 and swapped the lights over. A fortnight later my cousin tw@tted it into something else and bust the second set of lights. After that the pair of them got baled.
There was one on the bay a couple of months ago mind you, sold by serial tat-worshipper 'Mosky-Mark'.
