Not much of an exciting update, still waiting for coilovers but figured I'd do the wishbones while I was waiting to minimise the work and also loosen up the struts etc to make life easier when they do get here. So i set off to The Auto Bahn on Saturday and brought a sleeping bag and some Slivovice.
Here they are all ready to go on:
I didn't take too many shots, and the ones I did are half blurry due to an errant fingerprint on my phone. i really should think about getting an actual camera for this sort of stuff.
Anyway
So the VERY FIRST BOLT was being a complete pig.
I had a six sided socket hammered on to it, but it just felt like it was going to round. after ten minutes of saying "it feels like it's going to round" I rounded it. They are so shallow it was easy to do. Tried those sockets with teeth in and all sorts.
%£*$#@!!!
Massive thanks to ColonElk who managed to weld a wheel bolt to it so we could get the f---er off. I probably would have welded it to the subframe.
I did laugh as I was taking a break and looked at the array of tools I had lying about.
At one point there was a file, a grinder and all sorts of bits that I never thought I'd use to fit these!
Anyway, they were a real curse word to line up the bolts. It took ages to do the first side, but then when I did the second it was much quicker - always is I suppose, just seemed like a huge difference.
Funny thing was that MantaPhil walked in when we had just finished and said, oh those can be a pig to line up the bolts, do this bit first etc etc. I guess if he was there to begin with it would have taken half as long!
Also on the passenger side when I was undoing the droplink the bleedin thing snapped. Not really a big deal though, as when I put it back on I just cut the bush in half so I could get the nut back on the shorter thread. Not exactly ideal but not a critical component.
Ended up doing everything but popping in the last balljoint before giving up and watching a dorifto movie in front of the logburner with a curry and a few beers.
Anyway, on Sunday morning i finished her off and also wire brushed the bolts on the struts and gave them a bit of penis oil. After that i gave her a quick jetwash before heading back home.
So, this morning I've just ordered a new pair of Akron droplinks (which incidentally look way better than what I've got) which should be here soon and at some point this week I'll see if I can get a new bolt too, as the one in my subframe right now still has a wheel nut welded to it! Also I've spoken to Venom who were actually very helpful and say that my order should be here very soon.
Anyway, till next time.
