My ever feverous mind has been thinking about J vans recently (Hi-Aces and the like). But one thing that troubles me is how do you insure one for private use? Obviously most insurance companis I ring up are going to expect I'm using it for somekind of comercial gain and will therefore be doing loads of miles?? So whats peoples experiences?

The Post Office is doing van insurance as of tomorrow, doesn't have to be for a company just a person over 17.

I tried getting quote for the Nissan Vanette i looked at last year, non of the insurance companies wanted to know most didn't even list vanettes'. Norwich union did do me a quote for private use which was 900tpft (20 3 years ncb) which was way to high i will try again in a year or so, i need some a van at some point ;D

Hmmm, So is van insurance generally more expensive??
I was also thinking Vanette or maybe a Vauxhall/Bedford Midi. Air-ride and some wide wheels maybe banded steels.

I have had a van on car insurance (Bedford Midi) no problem. More companies are starting to offer vans on private use policies. You'll just have to phone around until you get one who speaks sense.

I've had vans insured on car policies before. The Citroen Acadiane I had wasn't on the PC list of the company I was with at the time (Liverpool Victoria) so they put it on as a Citroen White Van! Didn't cost any more than a 2CV to insure.
Of course, you could always get a trade policy. Then you can have loads of other cars on the same policy too!

I have the Austin Maestro 1275cc van that was on the for sale board a while back, i insure that on a classic policy for personal use, 170 quid a year fully comp. Didnt have any problems with them, they were happy to do it.

I have my 02 plate traffic insured for private SD&P use with Tescos, cheapest by far but you have to call them as I don't think they list vans on the website gave us 5 yrs no claims based on NCB on other vehicle even though it was in use on another car policy, if we remain claim free this year then we will actually get the full 5 yrs Effectively giving 2 sets of NCB to use on anything Which i thought was rather good ;D

Hmm might ring around. Stumbled across the problem of my dad not wanting another van parked on the drive (he has a t25) so just have to convince him I need an 8 seater mini bus ;D. Anybody know the PCD of Midi's?
I've got mad Lowrider thoughts infecting my brain. As well as J inspired ones!! MMMM.
