It's been a while since i've updated this but some action.. I fitted kit car headlamps last summer and I've finally had chance to fit a custom front grill to tidy up the front end as I wanted. First up grill cut to size .... Rubber U Trim ... Fitted ... Trying to use the top of the old grill as a bracket and a before pic of the area without the grill / etc.... Close-up (Wiring needs to be sorted) ... Paint wipes ... Masked (I'm going to remove the dark green crossbars and spray them off the car) .... Rubberised Paint warming in water... Sprayed (Gave it 2 coats - No need for primer with this paint) ... Stand back... After lots of swearing and grill flexing and squeezing I fitted the grill using cable ties along the bottom through the standard slots and drilled two 4mm holes on the inside edge of each wing .. I'm not happy with the bottom edge as it's puckered up a bit where it's fixed but I have plans to sort this out. Meanwhile the wheels and centres are at the polishers and should be ready to collect in time for Japfest.

Apparently there's a spare head gasket for an 850cc Reliant engine, for sale, £5 is pretty cheap

Got an FTP app for my phone to use my own web space now so I've fixed the Ph(otob)uket issues above and won't use it again!

I'm not a fan of modern cars. I'm really not. But everytime I see a cube on the street now, I smile and think about how awesome this one is!

Cheers speedy. There's something not modern about the cube to me. Unless I write this one off I'll be definitely keeping this one until it's a classic in its own right.

I've had this air valve and 4 way PTF connector sitting in my spare room for about 18 months and I've finally had chance to fit them to my front air ride setup today. Sorry I don't have any in progress pics as I was against the clock and lots of things were working against me today. It all worked out in the end and the planned result was as I'd hoped - to make the drop on the front suspension as quick as the drop on the rear suspension. Because the valves are in the boot it has always been slow for the air to return from the front bags back to the valves. With my new front setup, I have a separate release valve into the atmosphere in the engine bay so the air bursts straight out so I don't have to sit and wait while it stumbles down to the ground. Happy times.

I need to post details of how I made the centre caps but for now here's a pic of one of the wheels complete ... Protected with Chemical Guys Wheel Guard following recommendations in old threads on this site and they'll be fitted tomorrow evening in time for Japfest on Saturday.

Right so details on the wheel centres ... I bought the wheels without centres, I guess a lot of centres go missing over the years with older wheels. I managed to find one RH wheel centre on ebay but it was the wrong dimension so I decided to go the custom route, luckily with a flat faced wheel I could just get a 150mm disc of aluminium made up. The bit I had to think through was how to fit it to the wheel. Here's a pic of the wheel without centre, freshly polished ... I did get some centre insert caps with the wheels, so popped these in place - Placed the aluminium centre on (Also freshly polished) - With a 6mm drill bit I drilled through the hole in the centre whilst it was in place over the plastic cap. And done - Shake proof washers, 12mm bolts, and some nice spike nuts (Just normal nuts would have ruined the look, and as a piece of luck the edge of the spike is in line with the edge of the rim. Put together - Popped in place - Unfortunately the plastic wheel centre caps are domed, I did buy some flat caps but they were too small so I'm waiting for another set of centre flat caps to arrive so that the metal will centre sits flush with the wheel itself. It's not so obvious from above - The wheels will be fitted tonight ready for JapFest on Saturday

Next phase of the wheel story ... Picked them up from the polishers on Friday 10th May, the evening before Japfest, applied protection in the form of CG Wheel Guard, and outside ready to fit ... First one fitted, I left the 25mm spacers on just to try it out and loved it so much they stayed. The tread is fully covered which I believe I'd the legal requirement ? Drag race stylee shot ... View from the front with all four fitted, no spacers on the front as the width was restricting how low I could go ... Side/view A slight three quarter angle ... A nice and retro sweet themed air freshener, really scene from a cool J shop? Nah, off the shelf in Sainsbury's .., Shots from Japfest (Various photographers) ... Love this photo of the wheels, as I mentioned in previous post IIRC, the centres aren't flush yet but I have another set of plastic push in caps to file down to centre bore size so that the metal centres can fix to them instead of the current domed plastic insert caps... Height comparison against standard cube ... I creased that wing by dropping too low on my winter wheels with higher profile tyres. Wish I'd never bought them now! I plan on replacing wing, it's been bent back straight previously and gets weaker each time so I don't think that's possible. In the meantime a cube plaster and result sticker... And lastly my current favourite photo of my cube ...

Looking great still. Been following the updates on Facebook too, but each time I see them it makes me want a Cube just a little more...

Haven't checked back here for a month or so but glad I did now! The wheels look great Phil, much better than they ever did on my 480! Kind of wish I had them polished now but I was put off by the price I was quoted as I'm a cheap skate!

Cheers Davey. Had so many compliments on the wheel style at Japfest.
The overall cost turned out to be more than I expected by the time I'd taken building the wheel centres, tyres, polishing, wheel guard, straveller nuts into the equation!

Well that's the best looking Cube I've seen, very cool stance. The Cuore is coming on nicely too, another somewhat unlikely car looking good.

A few threads featuring engine swaps on here got me thinking. It's dangerous when I think. Even more dangerous when I see something for sale on pay day. So, I've bought this ... But this is the main bit I'm interested in... Collect it next weekend and then the measuring / removal begins!

So drove up to Grimsby in the lovely sunshine yesterday. Who says its grim up t'North? And picked up the Almera. I'm really impressed with how responsive it is off the line and how much more it has in reserve when sitting at motorway speeds in 5th. cube is going to be fun with that power. Back home ...
