Looks great. I reckon it'll sail through the MOT. I like the black on the back, but I think it needs to besomewhetre between satin and gloss. Maybe paint it satin black with 2 or 3 coats of lacquer? A good wet sand, compound and then polish should bring it up and make it look nice

MOT failed. Grumpy. It failed on in-effective wipers, which I think was a bit harsh, when I checked them when I got home from the Mot they were just leaving behind some streaks/beading that was classic of a dirty windscreen. I must have got some gt85 overspray on the screen last night while working on my bike. I've cleaned the screen and they are clearing the water just fine now. The other fail was on a sidelight bulb being obscured. The bulbs in there, and working, but apparently not bright enough. It's an old sealed beam with a kinda window thing for the sidelight to shine through from behind, so it's never gonna be great. To be honest I think it's pretty harsh to have that as a fail, seems petty on a 40 something year old car. Oh well… gotta try and strip the headlight down later and see if I can make it brighter.

Ah thats a pain, especially to fail on such little things, maybe the MOT tester was having a bad day?.. :/ Especially considering the condition of some of the wipers I see come in to Halfords on a regular basis I didn't think half the testers even bothered looking at them lol For the sidelight might it be worth cleaning up the terminals? seeing if you can get a bit more brightness that way? Hope it gets on the road soon

That's pathetic. Sounds like typical MOT man moment of power syndrome. Take it somewhere that isn't staffed by frustrated traffic wardens?
On a plus note, I think the reason you're not sure on the rear panel colour is probably down to the light lenses. In their current dolly mixture multiple hues of faded randomness they're all you see looking at the back of the car. In Mr Bugatti's photoshop where he made them all red the entire ensemble works so much better. Tinting spray, chop chop, lol

That is indeed a pathetic fail list.
Surely both of those are advisories as both are working but just not at 100%.
Our 2007 V50 had an advisory on a slightly dull indicator, but it didn't fail!
Tester was obviously not getting any from his missus.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks it's a bit poor. I've only recently moved here and don't really know any of the garages yet, I just know that a friend got his aw11 mr2 through it's Mot at this place with no hassle, despite it having a couple of points we thought might be dubious, so I figured they were pretty relaxed. I went back at lunchtime with my clean windscreen and they were happy to agree the wipers were ok now, but wouldn't budge on the sidelight. It's not helped that the other headlight has been replaced with a modern h4 unit, so the sidelight is bright and clear. I'm gonna try and get in the garage tonight, check some connections, probably chuck a new bulb in there for the sake of it, and try to make it as bright as possible.

Before: As you can see it's dimmer than the other sidelight, but it's there and functional still. If I was parked on a dark country road then it would alert other road users to my presence adequately. Anyway I took the light apart, and behind the sealed beam unit was a sidelight set-up made of a bulb, some zip ties and twisted wire joints. I love bodge artists…. I made a small bracket then with some new zip ties, a foil reflector and soldered joints we now have: If that ain't good enough, then I imagine toys will be out of the pram, and I'll end pu sucking up the £50 test fee and getting a re-test 20 miles up the road at a garage I trust.

I hope it'll suffice! It's quite ridiculous to fail a car on this. On a completely unrelated subject, your Fulvia looks like a '68 Shelby with the lights on

since purchasing v.e.d is reliant on MOT/insurance, in actual fact you can drive a car with expired mot AND v.e.d to pre-booked MOT, and return to "place of repair" if it fails bah at the niggly fail points, but sounds like easy work to get the pass

I'm gonna get in quick but i'm going to bagsy the 2nd run up prescott hill with you next year, the first going to your missus naturally.
Very impressed with everything you've done, I've only missed a few posts and you've done so much..you should feel properly pleased with yourself like a pig in poo! I'm now going to get myself off of the settee and into the garage tomorrow night and get my beastie running again.
Cheers to you for the devotion to your motor - motivation - just what i needed. I feel like a drive to worcester is on the cards just to shake your hand.

Hm, that just sounds so wrong... failing on those very small issues... but as usual, you just got them fixed and all will be well...

Wooooooo! MOT passed finally! Took it in with my improved sidelight, different tester today. An old guy, just wanted to talk about classic rallying with me. He took one quick glance at the sidelight and wipers and passed it. He did make a comment that the bosses son was doing MOTs yesterday and he was surprised as he doesn't know his way around classics…. :/ Gonna be sat working all afternoon just waiting to go for a drive this evening!

Great news, will be interested to know if it drives any differently, now that you have put so much extra strength back in the shell! Sidelight did look pretty dim before you repaired the bodges though. I for one like the black rear panel. You gave done some good work over the last few months.

Cheers guys I've been out and done about 60 miles just aimlessly tonight, it's noisy, bumpy, not very fast, you need a body builders leg on the brake pedal if you want to slow down much, with 5 turns lock to lock you've gotta be spinning the steering wheel round like a ships wheel to keep on top of it…. and I love it! Feels like I've driving again! I need to tweak one of the rear arches, as it's scrubbing the tyre, and there's a bit of a rattle somewhere behind the dash but nothing else has gone wrong yet on this shake down stage. Iand, it feels pretty similar really, right up to the moment when you hit a bump. Then it's instantly apparent that the whole car feels much more solid, less raptly, less scuttle shake, you just feel the wheel move up and own again. Essentially it just rides much better. It's very similar to how my mums mx5 felt different after it had all its sills done, with the inner layers done too rather than just patching. And likewise how my rx7 felt after similar treatment
