Many years ago (1993) I had a Hillman Super minx, my mate was depressed as he's girlfriend had left him and there was a weekender coming up that we needed an old car to go in. So we brought some pink air arsole cans from the market and started painting. The result was.....er.....unusual, white front fading to pink scallops, whitewalls and pink wheels, but the best bit was the way we masked lines up the seats and painted every other stripe pink. Would have been fine but every time you got out of the car you had pink lines on yer RS and back. All this in just two hours! Cheered my mate up though! ;D So whats the stupidest car mod you've ever done? Sorry about the curse word pic.

Fitting luxo spec OE side skirts to a poverty spec Carlton 1.8 Li Bought the skirts (S/H) and the clips and the rivetts (new & more than the skirts) Spent a whole day working out where the rivetts should go to get the skirts to sit right drilling and fitting them - placing clips on rivetts and finally fitting the skirts on one side Complete ar5e of a job and to be honest I prefered the without look once fitted so I never did the other side ;D When can you see both sides of the car at the same time Sold it like that too!!

I'd have to go back to my youth and say that on reflection, colour-coding the bumpers, grille, wipers, mirrors, door handles and wheels on my Mk3 Cortina was not one of my better ideas.
Not when it was Sahara Beige, anyway.

Hmm. Lots of silly 'licky-sticky' type stuff in my yoof. All terribly embarrasing.
More recently, if you want 'dumb moments', we did surpass ourselves when painting the Sceptre...
Realised at 4.15pm that we were about to run out of satin black. Halfords is 1.5 miles away, and being a sunday it shuts at half four, and the only transport we had was plastered with newspaper, masking tape and wet paint. DOH!

Myself and two mates painted a huge flaming VW emblem on the bonnet of my bug.
We did it in acrylic poster paint just for the weekend of Bug Jam.
Only problem was the sun was so hot it cooked it on never to be removed! D'oh.

Deciding to change the colour of my Moggy Minor using just aerosols, rather than just touching up a few bits and painting the new front wings to match the existing colour Got half way before running out of time & enthusiasm. Ended up with a car that had a dark blue front half, with a (several differetn colour) primered rear half

First car was a Mk4 Escort, came with bare steel wheels so I popped into Halfrauds to get a set of shiney plastic trims(possibly my first mistake), clipped them on and shot off, first tight left hander and two of the flew off over a hedge, a big puddle dispatched the other two and it was back to Halffys for replacements and cable ties

Not a stupid modification....just a stupid person....
One Saturday in about 1984 my mate Steve put 6x10" Wellers on his Mini van, with no arches.....
The next day we decided to drive down and watch some local Autograss racing. It was a lovely summer's day, but it had rained all week so the place was like a swamp.
Steve drove in in his white jacket with the sleeves pushed up, arm out the window, mirror shades on, fag hanging nochalantly out of the corner of his mouth....and spotted a couple of young ladies.
Gunned the throttle, and splattered his arm and one side of his face with a liquid mix of mud and cow curse word.
My, how we laughed.

Does a twin-DTM backbox on a Cinquecento count as 'stupid'?

Many would say painting flames on slow old British cars is probably misguided

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I had a 100 quid 2cv for a few months to tie me over.. so I decided it would be funny to make a massive wale tail spoiler/wing for the back and welded it on at roof level...!! but for some reason it worked!! REALLY WELL!! no more sideways buffeting with crosswinds and it sort of squated into fast corners very well.....!!!! it started as a joke but was a very worthwhile mod!! but looked ridiculous! ha ha si
