Not all went to plan, i didnt put enough hardener in the filler so it didnt go off!
I'll redo that later, hopefully, live and learn..
I'm glad you like them!, Not going to bother with a reversing lamp unless the MOT man says something, which i highly doubt he will. don't think it legally needs one because my mini never had one and it was the same age, its just a case of if its fitted, it has to work.

Could you not fit a single reverse one side and single fog the other inboard of the new light clusters? There's enough space to do it and with a small and smart enough lamp it should look okay I'd've thought. Then there's no worries at all about legalities and you have all the lights. Reversing in the dark without reversing lights is pretty annoying.

Ive never needed a reversing light, never had a problem with the mini so i wont be bothering on this!

Top work I reckon this is gonna look top drawer when done. You've addressed one of the things I really don't like on the dolomite the rear lights. What colour are you going for?

Thankyou kindly!
I don't mind the dolly rear lights, but they look ridiculous if you debumper, which is the plan at the moment.
Colour is staying the same. Much to a lot of peoples horror. But the fact of the matter is, is that its cheaper, and doesnt involve taking the engine out to paint the engine bay plus all the interior sections, floor, boot etc.
I also don't mind a bit of 70s beige, so what would be the point!

I've not checked in for a while. You've more enthusiasm than I could muster for welding old BL tin. Great prep on the axle too.

Thankyou both! Like i might have said before, once you're so far in and theres no way you'd get the money you'd spend back, you tend to stick with it. As it happens, I'm getting close to finishing it now, so i can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Welding went remarkably well today. Well, the welds turned out ok, i did have a nightmare with wire though, but i wont bore you with the details.. I've managed to reinstate the entire top lip: I'ts not as wonky as it looks in the photo, believe it or not. You know the weather has turned when you have to dig the lights out again... I managed to reinstate a good chunk of the bottom lip, ive still got some to do which might happen tomorrow. After that, the sill goes back on!

Top work, as usual, and looking decidedly festive in the workspace with those lights strung up.

I think we can both pretend the C word isn't going to happen for quite some time. Providing we don't turn on the TV, radio or go to the shops... or speak to people.

And if you can restore that in those conditions, sorting out my new Princess for me in my conditions should be a comparative walk in the park. Now, if only Dad would believe me.

I do have the benefit of a roof and a hardstand but its not weatherproof!
Ignore the parents, if mine had seen the full extent of things before i did they would have condemned it!
Getting close though, the only bits of welding I'm now dreading are the bits right underneath. Theres a strengthener thats rusted out on the bottom and that will mean welding underneath the car on my back, being regularly burned with weld splatter. Wont be long till i don't have to do it again though.

That rear panel looks very tidy, those light clusters do actually look very at home there. I found that Jizer was reasonable for engine bay cleaning, other products are no doubt available.

Looks like you've made really good progress on this and the rear lights do look quite at home there I've got some Gunk (the green can) that I've tried for engine bay cleaning and it was pretty good for cleaning up bits on the block, needed a fair bit of scrubbing to remove stuff on the inner wings though Before After

They changed the smell of gunk ages ago , I was gutted , one more great smell gone, even petrol smells rubbish now and when was the last time you enjoyed a turtle wax turtle car air freshener about a hundred years ago , ita all modern swearword now, bet I'm the oldest fart on this forum.

I don't think the Autoglym vinyl and rubber smells of pine forests, but I do agree that it smells lovely. There's a particular smell that you get from the fresh air vents in my HL Princess that is integral to the experience of the car and an entirely different but equally integral smell from my HLS Princess emerging now I'm getting to the bottom of the cleaning in there. Someone should invent a camera of some sort that can capture these smells, they are rare and wonderful things.
