Top purchase! I'd absolutely love an automatic Dolomite for commuter duty: if you should happen to have an overwhelming desire for an automatic MX5 or immaculate N13 Sunny...
If you need any bits or fancy some obscure alloys, give me a shout!

Why thanks!
The fact its auto would normally turn people away, but after I looked into it, its actually got the best MPG of the dolomite range, because its got a high FD. And as you say, perfect commuter, my drive to college is tonnes of stop start because of the narrow roads and tossers parking in stupid places, so it should be perfection (in the sense that i don't have to keep changing gear)
don't need any bits as such, unless they're mental 70s add ons, what are the obscure alloys? (the word obscure is a good one in my books)
Might be able to get some pictures soon, ive only been getting in after its dark lately.

Mental seventies add ons huh...might be able to help you there...I'll send you a PM when I've sorted all my accessories out. They're all obscure (that word again!) and Dolomite-specific.
Make with the photos, more yella Dolomite wanted!

I am liking this, I am liking this alot! I've always wanted to see a motor from the 70's fitted with one of those after-market cruise controls that always seemed to be advertised in 'Motor' and such like... I really do feel the need to see more photos of this fine British motor car very, VERY soon indeed... P.S. Can't wait to see it adorned with 'obscure' 70's add-ons very soon

Door cappings have have screws underneath the door cards, well worth taking the dash wood out, I did it on mine and painted them in stone effect paint from "plasticote", looked mental.

Forgive me if I'm being dense, but where in the UK are you? If you're not too far away I could always come and help you with all the jobs you've listed: not much I haven't done Dolly-wise! Ahem.
PS Looks like a good buy, give me a shout if you need a workshop manual to help you on your way.

Don't text while driving please ! ;D No Scimitars to be found? Your front spoiler is an obscure '70s add-on for a Scimitar don't you know. Also, you're sharing the PCD with the Scimitar. As an obscure 70's add-on you could fit Scimitar composite wheels for extra wides. Lately I've been coming around to Dolomites, and they're now a 'Like' for me. Is the car yellow or mustard?

Dolomites are 3.75" PCD, Scimitars are (unless I'm corrected), 4.5" PCD - the same as Triumph 2000/Stag/TR (and many others).
As you say, lots of Scimitars have been fitted with Dolomite front bib spoilers, they're a very neat unit compared to other seventies efforts.

I thought the Dolly was the same PCD, but it must have been the same style wheels, but in Stag/TR fitment I was thinking of. D'oh! And now I understand your avatar, Down&Out ;D

Awesome!! I can't agree with you more about the auto box - it's so much nicer than the manual and suits the 1850 engine really nicely. Good to see it's in good hands and not going to be left outside to rot again

Brilliant choice of car, I used to have a 1979 manual 1500HL (in Sandglow) as my daily and it was amazing. My one got written off in Guildford by a stupid woman (who decided that you now have to give way to the left on a roundabout), I still own my baby but as I'm now at uni in Canterbury it's gonna take me years to get her back on the road... If you need any advice then don't hesitate to give me a PM, I've done pretty much everything on mine to do with the mechanical side of things!

Nice car, always liked these.I like the colour too!Just in case you've not sorted the fuel cap, try spraying some WD40 or similar in the key hole, and gently keep trying to unlock.Usually works for me.Keep merry with the updates! ;D

Ah, this brings back memories . I do miss my Sprint a little. Once I sorted the car out, it was quite a good car around the bends in addition to being fairly competent on the motorways. I remember the car (when I bought it) doing a good chunk less than £25 (IIRC it was less than even £20!) for over 100 miles and that was with the water pump working overtime/too fast! (It was on an electric water pump conversion). Motorway driving was superb in it for an old car . The idea of an auto Dolly has appealed to me with chaps like Lewis saying they make for a great car. Enjoy it anyway . Here's my old one : retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=133516

All the best with it. My first car was a 1977 Inca yellow 1500HL with sprint wheels, owned between 1997 - 1999. I couldn't afford to keep it on the road at the time as it needed too much attention but when it did work I loved the handling, and even when it didn't work I loved the styling. The warning light cluster was fun to light up the segments like an automotive trivial pursuits, trying to remember what the magenta one was for?!?! Will follow updates anyhow.

That Trivial Pursuits circle must have been another Triumph part Reliant stole for the Scimitar.
There's a whole lot of British Leyland going on in that there shade/shed.
