Hi guys right first off apologies for not doing it sooner as I was asked ages ago in the technical forum but anyway here it is. What we have here is a big fat eBay no no! Which luckily turned out OK in the end, I bought this beautiful RRC off eBay for £410, at that price I thought it was worth a punt.
The car was over 200 miles from me and did not run so I got onto a website called any-van and for £270 had it trailered all the way home. The description on eBay from the seller was "does not run, no fuel getting to engine"
So here it is the day it turned up at my house...
It turns out that it had not run for over 2 years with no explanation as to why it was laid up in the first place. So after I got a new fuel pump, still no fuel to the engine so I removed the injectors which were all blocked and fitted some second hand ones off eBay (£20)
After some encouraging signs of life the car still would not start, a compression test revealed one duff cylinder... oh dear. So we whipped off the offending head to find one ceased valve and a bent push rod. Back on eBay for 16 genuine land rover valves and head gasket set (£80) the lot.
Here are some pics of the rebuild...
So after abit of work it was time to get the thing going... with some help from a friend.
No joy still no starty, there was a problem with too much fuel flooding the engine so we disconnected the fuel pump cranked it until we got somewhere near and reconnected the fuel pump and yep it ran for the first time. Albiet rough as a bears ass, but never the less it RAN!
Celebratary picture of a racing midget woohoo...
So after a little run we shut it off and it would not restart... ffs, we burnt the starter motor out trying and after that we just gave up for a few weeks until last week. After buying a spanking new starter off ebay again it ran, then that starter burned out wtf?
Cue Chris again, this was us taking the new one out and replacing it with a second hand disco starter, I had already been under it once to fit it so I blagged him into getting dirty lol.
Also in this pic you can just about make out my new Bridgestone winter duelers (£160 for 4 fitted)
Now it was time to bring in some extra grunt to get it jumped...
After some fettling we got it to start on the button, but again still rough, here is a video of it running like curse word.
It was running on 7 and I soon realised that number 1 injector plug was mixed up with the coolant temp plug
So far then I have managed to get this old nail somewhere close to being back on the road, things left to do is, reconnect the LPG, fit new front airbags as the backs are good but the front wont pump up, weld the exhaust as it leaks and fix the wipers, so here it is today 20.11.2012, running and driving, sort of...
