Hi retro riders! I'm Max from Frankfurt, Germany, 23 years old and I like old cars I work at a Ford/Mazda/Hyundai dealership as mechanic, well learning it right now I currently own a bunch of older cars, or scrap metal, like ,my boss uses to say There are 2 MX5, a BMW 730i E32 and, new to the fleet, a Subaru Libero, aka "the Toaster" ;D which will be daily driven by my girlfriend, shares is forced to share my passion I really like the japanese cars from the late 80s and the 90s, because they are cheap, fun, sometimes crazy and sometimes weird I also like minibusses like the delica, vanette, townace etc. But unfortunatly those seem to be export-to-africa only in germany... So I searched a bit wider and found this stupid looking car, equipped with so much funny things like electric glassroof, complete folding seats to sleep in and, of course, being a Subaru 4WD! Perfect car to replace this stupid cold tent i used to sleep in on trips to Nürburgring 300€ later and a lot of swearing it was home: The Toaster and a little bit of the Beemer in the background Me (1,94m), yes,the "bus" is small Wow, she actually likes it ;D In the next two weeks i have to sort out a few issues like a leaking oilpan, rear brake cylinder and a leaky exhaust, altough i already welded on every piece of its 1,2m long tail Then it hopefully gets new TÜV approval and then let the camping begin! I hope to update this thread in the next two weeks, stupid parts being delivered directly from japan... Greets Max

Thank you for the pictures! altough those vans seem to be often modified in japan its really difficult to find more than a few pictures. The first one is nice, I want to go in this direction but obviously a little less extreme since i'm in germany not in a manga ;D but i really like that color combo... but technical things first, i need to get it registrated and for this i need tüv -.-

Hi Max! I'm also in Frankfurt (live in Niederrad) - will keep an eye out for you. Do you work in the Ford place in Gallus? I don't know another in Frankfurt. Since leaving England I have not been able to do any work on my own cars at all and am really missing it. So if you need help with the toaster then let me know, I'm good with spanners Pass auf dich auf! Leo

Cool Where did you find the toaster and how did you get it home if it's abgemeldet? Trailer? What are you feelings for the TÜV? Does it need some work before it will pass?

I bought it from a friend of a coworker and brought it home with red dealers plates, good to work in the car business For the Tüv only a few issues need to be sorted out, mainly sealing the oilpan and the rear brake cylinder... Also, UPDATE! obviously not really mounted, just wanted to try them on, i like them the "engine" compartment under the back bumper I already welded the header, it leaked badly due to three huge cracks.. A new one would cost 100€ so i did the impossible and welded cast iron... we'll see how long it lasts... Await some hellajdm yellow foglight, lots of cleaning and probably some oily underbody pics in the next update! Greets, Max

dude nice i'd go for the lifted car in the 2nd pic xp i also like that idea but to be honest i don't think it will see lots of offroading, so big tires wouldn't be the best choice... it handles weird enough on the autobahn with street tires ;D That is sooo cool! Were these sold in Germany or is it an import? I really like these crazy Kei vans, would be a perfect daily for me aswell. I look forward to seeing what you do with it Yes, they were sold in germany, in other markets its called domingo or sambar. To fit in the kei van class they were fitted with a even smaller engine with compressor i think.

Hey, don't we all love those useless "i didn't do anything interesting and i haven't taken pictures of it "-updates? Well, this is one of those Today I lifted the toaster up to take a peek under for an oilchange and to see if i bought any rustholes.. i didn't! Its surprisingly solid, the only thing that worries me is the oilpan, which seems to leak through the rusted walls not the gasket... so i'm gonna search for a new one, the old one will last another 2 weeks i hope . Also our partsman told me that my parts for the brakecylinder will arrive tomorrow, so i can start there... only waited two weeks for them to ship from japan And to top this pile of useless information, i didn't take pictures, because i forgot the camera... ;D have a nice day, Max

that's what you get when the engine doesn't leak oil! (been there, done that ) good luck with the repairs, a mate had the earlier version of this (called E10 overhere i believe). Brilliant little car!

UPDATE TIME! ;D Jep, thats right, I didn't give up and finally it drives! After my last update it seemed to me that i only needed a few little things to do until i can get it registered... oh boy, was i wrong... Heres a list of things i did: -replace rear brakecylinder gaskets -replace rear brake pads -bleed the brakes again and again -clean the front brakes -weld the stupid oilpan -burn tenthousand new little holes in the oilpan -weld again -fill the remaining 9999 holes with sealant -weld the exhaust everywhere -reseat the reartires because they were losing air -change oil and sparkplugs As I was doing all this after work and this stupid little car seeming to fight against me, this took a few weeks. But a month ago, finally i got it inspected and could drive it for the first time ;D It's incredible! That's the funniest car i have ever driven right after my mx5! Ok, the clutch is slipping and the heater didn't work, which isn't exactly funny when it's freakin cold outside but it's great Yesterday I fixed the not working heater by bleeding the cooling system which isn't easy (read: pain in the ...) on rear engined cars. But it seems to work now although i didn't testdrive it yet. Next week I'll replace the clutch so my gf can drive it too. She doesn't seem to understand that if the clutch is slipping, stepping on the gas even more isn't the right way ;D Oh, and here are some pictures ;D Next things on the list are getting the second foglight on there and connect them so i can start blinding other drivers with awesomness ;D, fixing the clutch and a few other mechanical things, then customizing the interior Await further updates soon! Greets Max
