Yeah just chop the floor and inner wings out the front and plonk the remains over the top. EFFORT You could just expand the tunnel with plate, I would like to do the same but with a Volvo Amazon (2 door). Been saving for a while, going to start the project after I get hitched in May ;D

Update of sorts.
I've not done much other than drive it, however, its developed a slight hesitancy underload. A missfire by the feels of it. Today (in the driving snow) I've replaced the dizzy cap and rotor arm, but still it persists. Any ideas before I plow more cash into the ignition system?

I had similar, got worse to the point of dying new ignition bits didn't cure mine either... try your crank oil breather pipe work, apparently needs draining at every service, if not it pressurises the crankcase. Mine was this combined with a blocked cat and dodgy AFM. Oh yeah, more pics!!

Well, its an odd one for sure.
It's now had a new fuel filter aswell, really just to eliminate it as it looked old.
Still behaving the same, though, the new ignition bits have smoothed the idle out.
Its a very strange on/off feeling when booting it, if you go steady on the throttle, it doesn't seem so bad.
How is the breather system drained? I can't find any sort of walkthrough on the internetZ. Blocked CAT you say, sounds like an excuse to delete it from the system. Also, I've been looking for a 24v AFM anyway, I'l be going to my local Volvo breakers this weekend for a heater control switch and a rear light cluster so I'll have an ask for a AFM and maybe a price for a T5 turbo...

Also, I will get some more pictures soon. I still haven't washed it since I've owned it, giving it a very nice used and abused look, which seems to be keeping other drivers out of my way

Sorry to butt in on this thread but would the same principals apply to a 91 940? Still a 2.3 manual.

Sorry to butt in on this thread but would the same principals apply to a 91 940? Still a 2.3 manual. Is it a turbo or N/A? If its a turbo, get an ebay bleedvalve and a boostgauge. Turn the boost up until it holds a steady 10psi under load (and theres no pinking) It'll be the best £30ish you will ever spend. Night/Day sort of difference.

Yeah, turbo, that's what I had planned, just wasn't sure on the ignition, ecu side of things, but that will do me for now, many thanks.

Yeah, turbo, that's what I had planned, just wasn't sure on the ignition, ecu side of things, but that will do me for now, many thanks. My understanding is that the ECU's learn and adjust the timing to suit boost upto 10-12psi. So ignition should be OK upto that. If you want to play it safe you could invest in an Air/Fuel ratio gauge. Is yours a LPT, FPT or Turbo+?

I need to find out too, so let me know if you find anything Its not really mentioned anywhere other than in passing. There is however talk of having to drop the sump if you disconnect the wrong pipe which worried me greatly. I have found references to a flame arrester in the pipework that needs cleaning also. I'll let you know if I find any more info.

I went out for a snowy hoon last night. I have to say, compared to the Escort this is a heavy, cumbersome oaf. Lots of understeer followed by masses of hard-to-catch oversteer.
I managed to clip a curb with the N/S/R and bend the rim ever so slightly, I'll have to get that sorted at some point.

No LSD as standard, well, not on a LPT anyway, maybe on a turbo+. The axles are made by Dana, so LSD's are out there, but they will have to be imported from the states so won't be cheap, I'm going to weld mine up when I get a chance. As mentioned somewhere, for handling it seems chopping a couple of coils off is the way forward, theres seems to be very little aftermarket for these. I did find some -40mm springs, but I've yet to find someone running them. Wide, low profile tyres should dial out some of the understeer I've been encountering. A couple of hundred quid spent you should have something that can mix it with stock Cosworths, and if you want to spend a bit more (and don't mind getting mucky) theres potential for BIG enough power to make all but the hottest Cosworths look abit redundant.

thanks for the reply, sounds like a plan. I don't mind getting my hands dirty and I no my way round an engine ( I used to build race engines ) i'm not a big fan of cutting springs I thought there might be a coil over kit for these. most of my mates have around 300 bhp cozzies but they are all 4x4 so they loose about 30% of the power through the gearbox so if I can get 300 bhp I should be able to nail them in the dry. great !!! need to start a list of part . ps whats a turbo + ?

300bhp is easily achieved from what I've read.
I know what you mean about chopping springs, I don't doubt that GAZ or the like will make some coilover for you if you provided the measurements.
The turbo'd 940s came in three flavours, LPT (around 4psi), HPT (around 6/7psi), then Turbo+ was basically a HPT with some sort of 'overboost' facility for overtaking.

only 4 spi out of the lpt what does the turbo+ boost at and will a t3 off a cozzie fit the 940 manifold ?
