After seeing the 'BMT' DB5 featured in Skyfall last night, I wondered if anyone knew any more information about the car used in the film? I have found a few bits by googling: This is quite interesting - 'Scale-model Aston Martin DB5 from Skyfall sells for £61k' I'm assuming BMT was rented from its rather affluent owner for the film, and the scale model was built for other scenes. Great to see a 50 year old Aston featured prominently in a brand new film anyhow. Long live Bond!

I haven't seen the film (only the clip with 'M', saying "yes very inconspicuous" ) but if they're not using any of the gadgets it's probably just the number plate on a silver DB5 not necessarily the same car. In fact Richard Hammond said something along those lines in the 50 years of Bond cars programme.

God, why do they keep using the DB5, talk about overexposed. I'd love to see a scene where Bond is walking with Q through the garage area past some of the other old Bondmobiles; it would at least suggest that 'James Bond' is a title more than a single man, like they clumsily hint at with the Aston.

In the clip ive seen where he walks into the garage with Q. And theres the db5.... It does sort of make you think... Is this meant to be the same bond? Like hes getting the car out of storage after putting it away in 1960 odd... Its a middle aged guy ffs!! And its not even set in the same period.... Does 007 not age??? I always though bond was just a title (code name) for the agent 007 ... Meaning it can be any 007 depending on what period of time... Meh... I'm getting carried away... Ill be on conspiracy websites next..

Computer generated I assume (or they made a model from egg boxes and sticky paper or such like). As far as the lock up goes, I just assumed the car was in storage for one of the Bonds to access at some point. Apparently Jag/Land Rover provided 77 vehicles for the film. Feeling a fair bit of love for this beast: Some other JB motors:

Theres an urban myth that Sean Connery was in the running to play 'M' before they plumped for Judi Dench; that would have tied in continuity quite nicely, but Danjac bottled it as it would probably have opened a big-assed can of backstory worms.

I always though bond was just a title (code name) for the agent 007 ... Meaning it can be any 007 depending on what period of time... Meh... I'm getting carried away... Ill be on conspiracy websites next.. Remember that the Bond franchise was 'rebooted' in Casino Royale - the character started again from the beginning (like what they keep doing with Superman and Spiderman - the previous films aren't part of the current continuity). The 3 films that Daniel Craig's Bond has been in so far have effectively been the 'origin' story for 007. At the end of Skyfall, Bond is at the same point in his career where he has been in any of the previous films. Regarding the DB5, remember that Bond won it from Dimitrios in a poker game in Casino Royale. In the current Bond continuity it's his personal car, not a Q-branch 'company car'. However, in Skyfall it becomes apparent that Q-branch have made some modifications to it for him. It's these 'modifications' that people are having a bit of a problem with as it feels a bit shoehorned-in. It mainly seems to have been done as a nod to the past films with it being the 50th anniversary, which doesn't make much sense considering we started again with Casino Royale.

Makes sense (almost) how the DB5 came to be in it.

It looks like they used a Porsche 928, dressed up to look a bit like the DB5: Reminds me a bit of the really badly-disguised TR7 that was blown up in place of an A610 at the end of Eldorado:

That premise is a major theme in the original film of Casino Royale (the surreal '60s one with the fantastic cast). Also, at one point in OHMSS, Lazenby makes a comment to the camera along the lines of 'this never happened to the other guy'

Underrated Bond, underrated Aston: You guys are talking like Bond is a real person who actually exists . . . He's not real?!? Oh noes! Thank god I've still got Batman and Sherlock Holmes to talk about! #goes back to reading 1954 first edition of Live and Let Die while rolling eyes, ruefully

This one, in fact; OHMSS is probably the most underrated Bond of all. If it wasn't for Lazenby being dubbed quite so badly for large sections it'd be spot-on. Mmmmm, Diana Rigg Nice. And this, of course.... That was when "cougar" meant something different to what it does now, lol

James Bond is the author of a book on birds (the featherd type!) which Ian Fleming had on his bookshelf when he was writing Casino Royale. The personality given to Bond by Fleming was in large part based on Fleming's own view of himself.
Regarding Bond's car. According to the books it was a 30's blower Bentley in grey. The car was crashed on the Dover road whilst chasing the Mercedes 300SL of Sir Hugo Drax during Moonraker. Bond had previous to the chase ordered a new Bentley Continental using the money he won off of Drax playing cards at Blades club.
A pity these scenes never made it to the films....
