Used to have this: 1/5 scale, 23cc. An absolute tyre shredder. The parts you can buy for them are ridiculous:- LSD's, hydraulic discs all round etc. I sold it quite recently due to lack of funds. I've also still got a Tamiya Falcon and Mercedes 190E.

For a toy RC retro have a look in Maplin. They have a cal bug, cal bus, mustang and F150 truck in the hotrod RC series.
Bit plastic and I imagine slow but I bet you could still have fun with them.

I've been racing R/C cars since I were about ten - starting off with a Hornet, then Mardave Meteor, Schumacher Top Cat and so on etc.. Went back to racing after a bit of a break now running RC Lab 7-Six and a GT3 Check out this site for a real nostagia trip for those old racers/RC car enthusiasts (go to the showroon section ) [ftp]http://www.tamiyaclub.com/defaultcache.html[/ftp] Oh & its not just Tamyia cars on the site Oh & I race here on Friday nights..... [ftp]http://www.ketteringmcc.co.uk/[/ftp] (good excuse to do something prior to a beer out in the town later on ) And in the summer season I race in this series [ftp]http://pasadena.directrouter.com/~clubmans/sys/[/ftp] Edit; Cool Emaxx Jack - loving the Charger shell, What twin brushless set-up do you have in it? I reckon that a Brushless Emaxx is probably faster that a Tmaxx - certainly hard to keep it on all 4 wheels ;D Yay, another racer! I've done the Schumacher BTCC for the past 4 years, currently running a Cyclone, but I've had a Lab in the past. Current club racer is Tamiya Mini with Crazy Octopus inspiration: Before it met Mr Octopus: gazdesigns.fpic.co.uk/c962745_1.html

Get that Blazer out of the mud and on ebay! There worth more than gold, especially if it all works! That was before I realised it was worth a fair bit ;D It all works and is with radio gear. And 98% complete

I used to Race around here the club I was in was Tamiya only and set into classes.
The cars I used to race and still have actually are:
Hornet/Grasshopper Depending upon body (Grasshopper was solid white plastic and used the 360 motor instead of the 540 Box type, Both of which I upgrated to the Mean Machine stockker motor) the only other dirrernce between the grasshopper and the hornet was the front of the frame went to a point on the hornet and it has oil filler dampers, whereas the grass hopper just had the springs.
Super Black foot (I think it was slightly smaller than the Black foot, but a hoot to use)
Mondeo (MK1, first front wheel drive kit tamiya made, it came in two styles Clio or Mondeo touring car, and was quite quick out the box, this was soon upgraded) Due to the recent release of the kit you were able to race these cars in the 4wd class which was excellent as they seem to be lighter and faster, Orginisers soon clicked on and made a single class for them.

Let me just slip into my anorak here The Grasshopper had a solid axle that was pivoted at the back of the chassis - the whole thing was like a huge trailing arm. The Hornet axle could pivot and slide so if one wheel hit a bump the other one had a chance of staying on the ground.

Yoiks Things is, once you've brought it at that price you'd never want to use it.... whats the point in that Yay, another racer! Current club racer is Tamiya Mini with Crazy Octopus inspiration: Before it met Mr Octopus: gazdesigns.fpic.co.uk/c962745_1.htmlHi Garry - I've done the BTCC in the past, back in the day when I was a Schumacher team driver - but got very hectic (& depressing) Doing this along side National on & off road series. Which is why I like the STCC - much more relaxing Would like to have a go at Off Road again - I certainly had more success at that than in any other formula. Mini looks cool ;D - what club do you race at? Also is a Cyclone the Hot Bodies/HPI car? I'm not really up to speed with all the latest stuff - hence, my indoor car is about 7 years old ;D GarethJ - I think you are right, the Hornet's slider peices had little springs in them which went missing as soon as you used the car

My first RC was a first edition Tamiya Hornet: My second was a Mardave Mini, painted with blue and red enamel - still got it somewhere in the garage. Now I'm left with my Tamiya mini with some sort of race motor: And a HPI MT2 witha few hop-ups: how much are u talking for a starter RC car, something fun to thrash about with Electric or Nitro?

how much are u talking for a starter RC car, something fun to thrash about with cant get much more fun than this: any 4wd rc car with drift tyres can do it or you can get the yokomo drift kit. you do need to get all the electrics seperate though. costs between 200 and 300 for everything you need.

I had a Mardave Ministock aswell, awesome little cars considering how simple they were! I always fancied a Marauder, I still wouldn't mind one to be honest! A friend had a Marauder.. It really wasnt very good. I never had a proper RC car, only cheapo Nikko ones - but I was really into them for a while.. Now I have the money I may well look into getting something decent.. Always fancied an RC10.

Remember folks at Retro Rides '07 (the RR show) there will be some kind of RC circuit for people to have a tonk about on. Nothing too formalised just a fun area to meet up and have a blast on
