Was up in my loft getting the Christmas Tree when i found my old RC car, a Mardave Ministock that i raced about ten years ago. This got me thinking did any of you guys race these cars in your childhood or do any of you still race them? Sadly the club i raced at is no longer there, but seams there is still plenty south of the border. At the time i raced you were limited to body shell choice ( Pug 205, Mini, Mini Clubman, Mini Sprint) after a look on ebay theres plenty of choice for some classic cars Mk1 Escort saloon/van, Starlets, Rover P4, Austin A55, Mk1 Granada the list goes on. This is what i found left in a bag Some shells on ebay

Great find the old Mardave mini stocks were great and was the first car i had when i started racing. I then progressed onto a tamyia mini and raced at a local club like that for ages. When i was able to start working in the summer holidays and on saturdays things got a bit more serious and i was racing on a regional level with touring cars, 2wd off road and 4wd off road with all losi kit sadly the costs started to spiral and once i passed my car test playing with bigger cars i had to make the choice so sold most of my kit. I've still got a nitro powered xxx-nt in the shed but don't have time to run it I ban myself from looking on ebay as i'll only get itchy fingers and go and buy something ;D It's also the same round 'ere that most of the local clubs seem to have closed or moved

Cool thread! Not exactly racing, but I inhereted a Tamiya Blazing Blazer a few years ago from my Uncle. It's not getting any use at the moment, so I think it might go to fund real car progress ;D

Again like a few others on here, I never raced it, but I did have a rather tasty Tamiya 1/12 scale Porsche 959, superb car, phenominally fast and handled so well. I wish I'd never sold it now! I had a Mardave Ministock aswell, awesome little cars considering how simple they were! I always fancied a Marauder, I still wouldn't mind one to be honest!

I have an original Tamiya Kingcab, the shell is a bit battered though ! I had the toyota stadium truck, bought it when they were brand new on the shleves, same as the king cab apart from front tyres and the shell. i have had loads over the years, still have my trusty old King blackfoot which comes out for a burn every now and again, has an electronic speed controller and a hot motor in it (cant remember how many turns it is but its bloody fast) got a spare shell, and brand new unused windows and chrome trim cos i was gonna retsore it, but now I'm thinkin it may look the nuts slammed over a car chassis. has anybody got any links where I could buy a suitably retro RWD shell?? in 1/10th scale. ive got a Tamiya TL-01 ive converted to RWD and I was looking for a mk2 escort preferably RS2000 shell for it and cant find one anywhere! try www.kamtec.co.uk

Again never raced, but I have had a fair few Tamiya R/C cars in my time. I've had a Lunchbox, a Super Hornet, a Blitzer Beetle, and a Mondeo. There's also a Subaru Legacy on my window, but I am not sure that one's actually one of mine. CappuccinoCruiser and I used to race them in the street before our days of owning real cars, but for some reason I have never got rid of them.

There's loads of clubs still racing mardave cars, minis, using the cars as seen in spuds thread, alongside the "new" (now out of production) mardave R12 mini, as well as various self build and small manufacturers cars based on mardave components. I shall be racing one this evening. There are also classes for the mardave V12 car, Hot Rods, which are the basic V12 car with ESC, Huge capacity cells and careful preparation. Shells available for these cover the Most successful Hot Rods from the past 30 years. see www.kamtec.co.ukBangers has become huge these last few years, using a standard madave V12 car with a body from Kamtech and a few others. There is a national series for all these classes, Smithy, my brother with the i200 posted in readers rides last week was national champion for Hot Rods last year and the year before. This years went to our mate steve. If you are interested in giving it a go and you are around the south coast come down to Aldingbourn Social club (A29 between Bognor Regis and Fontwell) on alturnative monday nights. (last one befor chrimbo is tonight) There's also a club in Haywards Heath that runs at a school whose name i cant remember and on a road whose name i don't know! that races alturnate saturdays. visit www.bognormodelcars.org.uk/

Get that Blazer out of the mud and on ebay! There worth more than gold, especially if it all works!
I've had many in my time, stared with the Tamiya Grasshopper, currently running a Losi XXX-s G+ (Which if anyone wants to buy, i'm only asking £150 complete) Which is the top of the line 1/10 touring car, you genuilny cant buy any better!

The Hilux and Blazing Blazer were amazing - I made do with the much cheaper Sand Scorcher! I raced it a bit but with no diff and too much weight in the rear it either understeered or spun off everywhere At it's best on those old Tamiya promo videos jumping around sand dunes! I modified the Sand Scorcher by turning the waterproof battery compartment around to move the weight forwards a bit and put the steering servo on the front with a Frog servi saver. This gave a bit more positive steering and I could usually balance the car in a slide around corners. Next I got a Tamiya Grasshopper, put some better rear shocks, a 7.2V battery pack and a Demon Mr T motor - that thing really flew! It suffered on bumpy tracks but with front tyres from a Holiday Buggy it looked good and handled well on smooth tracks. After that came one of the first Kyosho Optimas, this was the time when everyone else was racing Tamiya Hotshots (and very expensive RC10s!). I got a ballrace kit for the Optima and it was successful out of the box. The chain stretched a bit and the steering arms kept popping off as they got worn but it was very quick on most tracks. By this time I was about 16 and I sold the Optima to get a Mardave Meteor. This was so light that it would just blow away with a gust of wind and the chassis was as floppy as Noddy's hat. However it was quick and handled quite well and it was huge fun to race. I'm not allowing myself to look on ebay because I know I wouldn't be able to resist

I've been racing R/C cars since I were about ten - starting off with a Hornet, then Mardave Meteor, Schumacher Top Cat and so on etc.. Went back to racing after a bit of a break now running RC Lab 7-Six and a GT3 Check out this site for a real nostagia trip for those old racers/RC car enthusiasts (go to the showroon section ) [ftp]http://www.tamiyaclub.com/defaultcache.html[/ftp] Oh & its not just Tamyia cars on the site Oh & I race here on Friday nights..... [ftp]http://www.ketteringmcc.co.uk/[/ftp] (good excuse to do something prior to a beer out in the town later on ) And in the summer season I race in this series [ftp]http://pasadena.directrouter.com/~clubmans/sys/[/ftp] Edit; Cool Emaxx Jack - loving the Charger shell, What twin brushless set-up do you have in it? I reckon that a Brushless Emaxx is probably faster that a Tmaxx - certainly hard to keep it on all 4 wheels ;D

ive got a monster beetle at my mothers, rebuilt it with an ally cage and mesh windows etc, but it was way to slow so i bought a savage and put a 4.6cc engine in it, thats much more fun ;D But not very challenging so i bought a i/5 nitro powered motorbike that I'm learning to race, good fun, but it gets expensive!
