Not seen a pick up for years.
I remember buying an 1100 Special at auction in the early 80's - it wasn't what I planned to bid on, but the hammer was coming down at £60 IIRC and it looked tidy enough - wasn't until later I figured out it had the 1294 engine with a Weber on it. When it ran, it went quite well (power to weight ratio benefitted from the shell getting lighter as bits dissolved then dropped off).

The rust looks worse than it is. The doors will be replaced. I've found a NOS one for one side and a solid one for the other (the only non rusted panel off an 1100 hatchback..!!). I've got replacement panels for the sides of the pickup bed, sills and the wings have already been rplaced with fibreglass ones. The area under the driver's footwell is below where the floor slopes up in front of the pedals to the bulkhead, leaving a triangular 'box section' for the water to collect inside... something French car manufacturers seem to specialise in. There again, SIMCAs aren't the only ones... I learned to weld up really rusty cars on Triumph Heralds, 105E Anglias and Capris....a real grounding in how cars terminally dissolve..!! I'm aimimg to get it finished for the International SIMCA, MATRA, Talbot meeting at Beaulieu on 11,12 & 13th July, which the UK SIMCA & MATRA clubs are hosting. www.routeuk.net With a bit of luck and a lot of work, we should have the pickup and my 1200S coupe there.

Not thinking of going that far with my 1100 pickup but this is the engine bay of a SIMCA 1100 hatchback into which my brother has just transplanted a Honda SOHC 16valve with its 5 speed box. Carbs are ex 1.6 Alfa Dellortos on an adapted Ford CVH manifold.......

Love the little pick up..i remember my dad had one many many moons ago.. A big welding project you have there but has to be worth it in the end. Must be the only one left. IDEA. Drop suspension way down/roof chop to make it look extra low/nice old skool big n little slot mags. Wooded pick up bed/mi16 engine and box. Result wood be a nice little pick up.

If I could find another I'd thought of something along the lines you suggest. This one will stay more or less as it was before the rust problems but with a much better twin DCNF 1294 SIMCA engine in place of the original 1118. There are only two 1100 pickups known to the club in the UK though. The other one will get rebuilt as it's owned by two 'serial' SIMCA 1100 collectors.

Of course the torsion bar suspension on all 4 corners makes a serious drop relatively easy.

Cool! I remember my Dad having a couple of these on the farm. They were both red and badged as Dodge, both completely rotten, and that was the early 80s! They were replaced with a Datsun which was space age in comparison.

Area under battery from inside car once I'd cut the rust out. Rust problem seems to stem from thin sheet metal, original seams with hit & miss spot welds, leakage from battery on Passenger side and wads of soundproofing material on parts of bulkhead that did nothing but harbour moisture.

Same camera...!!! The strange results in the past were my messing about with the photos. Next on the list is a lot of cutting out of repair plates then loads of welding. I'm currently sharing out my time on car work with my SIMCA 1200S coupe. That's in the garage so it gets worked on when the weather's not too good. Plan is to have them both ready for the International SIMCA, MATRA, Talbot meeting at Beaulieu on 11,12&13th July.. www.routeuk.net

Found another rusted area just below reinforced area where pedal box bolts.
