	Great work, Cracking little car. I can vaguely remember an episode of the Sweeney with one of these in it, about a couple of posh blokes who go about stealing cars and robbing rich people, like modern day highwaymen, only caught a glimpse (sp ?) of the car though.

	Taking shape again. Upper front panel in place after loads of measuring, trimming and hammering of bent inner wings & 'boot' floor. Lower panel ready to go on after being adapted for Rallye 2 with air intake for front mounted rad and grille and various extra vents and drillings.

	After a long lay off I've finally got back to repairing the accident damage. Panel thatfits above radiator to support spare wheel needed some serious hammer work but is now more or less back to shape.

	While I was getting some parts out of the back seat area, I poked some rust bubbles on the rear door pillar. After owning 30+ SIMCA 1000s over the years, I should have known better. Straight through..!!! add that area to the welding list.

	It's getting closer to returning to the road. Would be finished sooner if I hadn't got so many other SIMCAs needing attention. Engine is running spot on after my brother rebuilt the (notoriously troublesome) Solex carbs and I replaced some dodgy wiring around the ignition switch and indicator/headlamp stalks. Just needs a thorough going over of the brakes after standing for over two years and paint in odd places. The bumpers and spot lamps can wait until it's back on the road.

	Engine now running spot on and getting on with wiring... mainly poor earths round front end. Footwells are surprisingly rust free... treated them to some paint. Have found that smooth Hammerite yellow with a dash of green mixed in comes close to the 'bitter green' for these areas, Next job is the seized brake calipers that years of standing have almost guaranteed,

	Most cars done in this colour were described as 'vert acide'. Some, like mine, have 'jaune Rallye' on the paint label in the front 'boot'. It seems that SIMCA themselves couldn't decide whether the colour was green or yellow. When I was researching touch up for it, the local motor factors tracked it down to 'Bitter Green'... the same colour used by Chrysler UK for a short time mid 70's..... The paint they supplied me with was used for the driver's door and front wing that I'd replaced and odd scuffs etc from 20+ years of storage

	Finally back on the road...!!! It marked its first long run by conking out..!! Alternator adjuster link broke losing the belt on the M1. The spare belt I had was too short (for an earlier model SIMCA 1000). It returned home on an AA truck. Now OK, repaired, the right belt and cooling system bled I took it to the 'Motornutz' car show near Sheffield. Ran spot on and, the only SIMCA there it caused loads of interest in the company of some spectacular machinery.

	Now running spot on. Photos from Thoresby Hall Classic show. Blue coupe is my brother Kev's SIMCA 1200S Bertone which uses the same floorpn & running gear as the Rallye 2. He's also fitted a twin webered 1294 Rallye 2 engine in place of the original 1204.

	Finally got round to sorting this out. Needs clutch replacing and while engine is out plan to remove fuel tank to get some welding done under back shelf and front edge of rear inner wings, both prize SIMCA 1000 'rot spots'. The car has only done 72000 Km (45000 miles I think) and I'm sure this is the first time the engine has been out since new. Remember it was put away when the guy who imported it into the UK died in '81 and was shut away till I bought it in 2003.

	Fuel tank out to look at extent of hidden rust behind there. Needs new metal/welding under rear shelf and subframe looked worse than it is. Once all surface rust removed and after a good 'poke' around all appears sound. I checked carefully as I've had a 1000 in the past where the lugs mounting the trailing arms had broken off the subframe..!! Will treat subframe with rust converter. Other issue I found was O/S rear chassis leg which has cracked. THe 1294cc Rallye, SR and Special models have extra strengthening welded below the chassis leg further back but this doesn't go forward to where the subframe mounts. Surely creating a weak point Original designer's logic??? Anyway that's where mine has cracked. Other side is as good as new though.

	Cracked chassis leg repaired so now needs rear end raising higher so I can get to dealing with rust under rear shelf, result of dodgy drainage around back screen area.

	Rusty area cut out below rear shelf. Just needs some decent metal welding back in. Just have to remember to include what SIMCA never did... some drainage..!!

	All welding done on inner wings and under rear shelf. Before refitting fuel tank had a quick poke round elsewhere for rust. Ok except for N/S rear door pillar, a favourite SIMCA 1000 'rot spot'. Did O/S pillar a couple of years ago. Have a repair panel for this side so that's the next job for the grinder & welder.

	retrolegends Yes it's still going spot on. Paintwork needs a bit of tidying, here it is with my 1100 pickup. Also my brother's Honda powered 1204 Special I'm currently storing for him.
