I'm sure that many of you will have noticed that the KPGC10 was not running well at The Gathering and was basically pretty underwhelming. It wants to apologise for misbehaving..... It would start and run in the paddock, but with such a weedy spark it was already fouling its plugs by the time it got anywhere near the startline and it was misfiring all the way up the hill and back down again. As I hadn't brought any ignition system spares with me all I could do was change the plugs and hope that it would clear itself. It didn't, and if anything it just got worse and worse. Basically I hadn't run the car at all since it came back from the Le Mans Classic event last month ( Nissan France borrowed it for display on their stand ) and whilst there it got a good soaking standing out in the rain for several days and nights. Now that the car is back home I have been able to look into the problem a bit more closely and it appears that the ( 1971 original ) transistor ignition unit is the source of the problem. I think it's had it. Quite a simple fix ( I can get hold of another one ) but too late for RRG 2012. Sorry The car was never going to be suited to the hill ( it gets frightened when it sees tight corners! ) but it would have been nice if it had at least been crisp and on song. It was a great honour to be invited as a Guest car, and it's always a pleasure to show it to people who may never have seen one in the metal before. That's half the fun of owning it. Many thanks to all for a great event - it really is one of the friendliest events out there - but sorry for letting the side down..... Cheers, Alan T.

I don't think an apology is needed, this was my favourite car of the weekend, i met you briefly on saturday when i was drooling over the engine and the smell it gave off haha.
Awesome car and sound.
Dan.

it was such a shame it didn't run right, because i still have the awesome sound it made in 2007 deeply engraved in my memory. And this time you didn't run any silencers at all!
I just hope you'll get it to run right again and that i get a chance to see and hear it again! ;D

Michelle and I only saw it going past us as we directed it back into the fire-up lanes upon it's return from the top of the hill, it sounded and looked ace to us! Thanks for bringing it along

Alan,
I'm sure everyone was glad to see such a beauty/beast, it's the reason I stuck the engine back in my Sapporo (in bits a couple of weeks back) to make the trip up to the gathering. I would have paid good money to have been a passenger in it, missfiring or not.
Cheers Andy

yep, i was just happy to see it. i did say it wasnt running right to the missus, but with all the awesome sounds the whole day provided from the hill, it was still in its own right a pleasure to see and hear.

Yep, very happy to see it in the metal, even if it had a lawnmower motor I would still have taken the (20 or so) pictures I took.
Love the car, thanks for sharing!

It was awesome, despite it not running right it was more the a volume match for the Napier Bentley, and that's saying something. I had to cover my ears when it went past me in the pitlane and I swear it was sooo loud the Ax was rocking everytime it revved next to it lol

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. It was a great pleasure to bring the car to the event and get such a warm reception. Thank you! Next year? Hmmm, maybe I can bring one of the other projects instead. It would be great to take the 1970 Fairlady Z432-R replica up the hill ( think of it as a super-lightweight early Z with the GT-R's S20 twin cam engine ) so that might spur me on to getting it finished in time.... Cheers! Alan T.

Whichever shows up you know it'll be drooled over........ Many thanks for the talk over the engine bay while you were trying to remedy it's fouled plugs and sparking issues.
It looked fantastic and had a load of attendees awed in its presence.
On the other hand - it did give me ammunition for the GF, I can show her that even with such a fantastic motor it can go wrong - so how does she expect me to get my bag'o'sh**e to run well ;D
Looking forward to next years attendance. Good luck with the build too.
John
