MWF is on the money. The chav scene is so fashion dependant that cars go through phases. As C2s get cheaper second hand, the Saxo will find itself dating and the bodykit boys will abandon it just as they did with Novas.
Could well be that the type of mods change as well. Some fashions last five minutes (light up washer jets anyone?) whereas dropping your ride has always been the thing to do - pretty much since the dawn of the motoring age.

Is it also OK for me to come out and say that the 1.4 AX GT is a faster and better handling car than the saxo VTR/VTS. And that (as we all know) the saxo is basically an AX anyway underneath. Really? I like the VTS, had some good times in a couple including the Citroen kit car effort, which was ace. I'd be very surprised to see a bone stock 1.4 AX whip a stock VTS around a track. Anyway, I digress. Some valid points made here and without boring you all to tears about market studies etc Many of these owners will progress into Zafiras, Vectras etc. But while they can, anybody who modifies a vehicle of any kind is a brother or sister in arms. If nobody modified new vehicles, it would be so much easier for the powers that be to slip in a whole new wave of regulations essentially outlawing a lot of our interests.

Car manufacturers have often taken note of some of the mods trends in recent times. One example are the last generation Rover 25/45 rear number plate trick, which was positioned lower down thus leaving the boot clear. I hope the current trend for the cleaned look makes it into the next generation of Passats and Polo's.

I think they may have already done so the Saxo was the new cool small car to have just when being into modified cars was enjoying a huge boom in popularity, The Fast And The Furious was on the big screen, young people found they could borrow money, and a lot of it and Kroozes where at their most widespread. It seems that's passed now and the whole scene is a little old hat. That age group seem to more into trying to live the lifestyles of celebrities.

You can get a euro look Saxo from the factory! its called a VTR! My mate had a VTR apart from its shockingly bad relyability it was a damn good car, fast, good looking (it was slammed on stock alloys with smoked lights) and pretty good to drive too

OK OK so i got caught,
But the AX GT is quoted as having top speed of 119 and 0-60 in 9 seconds, I have to say DOES handle better than a VTR and with twin webers is faster. No Cats, no injection, lighter and more fun and lastly AX GT available for 250 with T&T saxo VTR find one thats not modded to stupidity and back with T&T for less than a grand minimum for an early rough one.

Blimey we had a basic AX and it was one of the most dreadful cars evAr... And thats official. only things I can think of which are potentially worse are the Rover 213 series 1 and the 2004ish Fiat Punto. And the Series 1 Avensis gets a dishonourable mention too.

I think to mention teh basic AX in same company as the others is fine but the GT is a right little pocket rocket and I'm in it's fan club..... I'm also a Visa GTi fan club member too another underated car

Worth a mini oooffff from me, GF is a fan of these i remember too nice one, not much to those old citroens, good for speed but very basic and tinny. I'd try one. Slater has a point, VTR's are very roundy, and smart looking. so yeah sort of euro out of the tin. Easy to clean further, natural really. I agree though fashion is what its about, we're all inspired by things/scenes, those who are not just follow fashion, comes and goes.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I really couldn't give a flying toss whether overgrown 15 year olds like Golfs or not.
The majority of them aren't petrolheads. They don't get their hands dirty and are just following another trend like Burberry or Nike Air trainers. In ten years time most of them will have progressed to being trainee assistant manager at Maccy Dees and will drive nearly new Vectras bought from yes car credit.

they are just taking on another style because the 'dub' scene has got so huge everyone tries to emulate it. tbh i have stopped going to shows because the 'dub' scene involves fitting wheels from a different vag car and making it shiny. i can do that on my favorit and nobody will bat an eyelid. it will pass as well once the euro thing is well and truly overcooked and ruined. i've seen enough proper euro cars and more than enough trying to be euro... removing the side trim, t-cutting and putting the exact same audi wheels as everyone else in the row does NOT make your car modified or euro'd. it makes it sh1te. try doing some real work, and see if you can do it, not the bodyshop... novas are still very much in vogue over here :s ?? in fact i've got in trouble many times for pointing out that the very same people who slagged me off continually for having a rwd 1988 estelle were the very same prepared to bosh hundreds, thousands of pounds on a rotting no-go... i see no changes i have not already witnessed in the never-ending loop of chavness.
btw, used to get to sit in the back of an ax going to school. thankfully never seen one again so that i could burn it...

Proper agree with you there mate, owned both, excellent little cars. Visa was quicker and handled better than a 205 1.6 as well.

i saw a really neat job on an e30 once, the 'bad boy' was shaped like the headlights rings... it was more the quality of the execution than the look though...
