Glad the euro look got a warm response from a majority of the posters there. As with any scene, there will always be those who slate stuff and can't see past their own blinkeredness. Promising stuff. It won't be long before early Saxos are retro and the "Modd3rz" are driving C2's.

Interesting thread!
Wow, there IS hope for the future!
I considered getting a brand new VTR in 2002 - test drove one, did the sums, then kept my Cavalier SRi and bought a flat. Phew!

The modern modified car scene has produced some of the most innovative cars in recent years, and they've not always appreciated as such. But it's far harder to start messing about with a 10K car, than a 1K car like most of us.
I have a lot of respect for some of these guys, but like all scenes there are good and bad. There's already been some cross over cars in the UK like a couple of Euro'd Fiestas and the execution has been killer.
That whole scene has recently started kicking back against huge rims and bodykits, and this move can be partly blamed on the Japanese car scene with the influx of cheaper performance vehicles, modifications naturally following in the same vein with people realising the folly of fitting 20s to a Saxo.
I could ramble on, but in short it's good to see. ;D

Interesting indeed. Out of all the 'illustration' pics they chose, I'd still take the Kadett over all the rest. Some of these 'euro-lookers' are stunning, but a little 'fussy' I find, what with bra's, lighting swaps, shaving & bonnet modZ etc. Clean, low and simple is where it's at.

From looking at covers of Max Power and like, it seems the Euro minimalist look is spreading, even if euros not only have wide rimmed wheels but also big wheels too! Bodykits and 'OAKLEY' stickers etc seem to be very 90's now. Be interesting to see what happens next...

Function is starting to take over from form, as I said about the Japanese import market. It's made people far more aware of relatively cheap performance motors, so instead of trying to emulate a look with bodykits and big wheels, people can now have the real thing. Which is all good, I've seen a couple of euro'd Saxos. I really wish I could remember where though...

Yeah, granted some of the modern tuner stuff is nicely done, and some of it is innovative. Although I'm sure theres actually nothing "new" in motor car modyfying... Just a new way of applying it to a different vehicle.
The thing is there have always been and there will always be eejits with no mental or mechanical ability who just want to slap some tat on their car to make it look proper bo innit and go drink 25 pints of wifebeater and get an engerland tattoo done before going to their wikkid gangsta innit UK Garage / D&B nite wiv der bitchiz before getting some 14 year old up the duff behind MacDonnalds.
See how many negative stereotypes I can roll out in one paragraph if I really really try?
Anyway, my point is that more than ever modified cars have been a fashion statement for younger guys with a whole lifestyle that has to come with it. I think a lot of people are growing out of it and will either settle down and buy a Zafira or modify their cars properly.
There will always be loud mouth know nothing kids who judge everything on its age and price tag. They will grow up to be just as objectionable adults and are the people who keep the car loan companies in business.
The Saxo will go the way of the Nova. I remember a few years ago I hung out with some youger lads and I was hearing "Novas are whack ol dogs, Saxos are mint". I saw the cycle there and then. Yeah, some nice new Saxos were being built. And most Novas were filler laden heaps of Halfords stick on tat and badly fitted bodykitys. But within a year there were 1000s more Saxos which were chavved up monstrosities. And now they are cheap chavved up monstrosities but the Novas are starting to look cool... The Saxo has to finish enduring its period of shame and ghetto tat and then one day we'll all wake up and they will be retro cool.
Wonder how many members of that forum will be still into Saxos by then or will be in a chavved up C2 or something?

i could see he euro look working very well on the early squarer saxos, not so much on the more modern models tho. its encouraging to see that they are looking to more obscurer plces of inspiration.
i wonder how many could be changed to the way of RR???

Good to see change being embraced. I do fear for levels of literacy in the young though.

Is it ok to come out and say that I actually liked the VTR/VTS driving experience? No one really makes small stripped out lightweight racers anymore.

Is it also OK for me to come out and say that the 1.4 AX GT is a faster and better handling car than the saxo VTR/VTS. And that (as we all know) the saxo is basically an AX anyway underneath.

I'd be hesitant in saying the scene is maturing and more inclined to suggest that perhaps this is just part of a cars modifying life cycle. As Alistair has already pointed out Nova's were regarded as a shameful weapon of crass modification but times have changed a lot.
I would imagine a lot of members in that forum topic posted will go their different directions. Some choosing to adopt styles from other scenes, some choosing to continue what they are doing now on newer more current cars or bigger fast more luxurious older cars and others perhaps buying cars and following routes they never thought they'd be into.
