went up to snetterton today, as it was my mate george's first time on track with the escort. him and 2 mk1 escy's from the area ventured up for the day. it was biting cold today, but a good mix of cars kept us entertained. around 60 cars and an open pit lane made it a busy day, not to mention george blowing the head gasket apart and driving back to bury st edmunds for a new one, some tools and a rad cap! mitsi evo's outnumbered most cars there, but some surprising cars were pretty quick too! subaru svx was quick, sure footed and sounded bloody gorgeous! mention of the mx5 that outhandled and out braked most of the field, accelerated faster than many too. 2x e28's, a racing classic jag, cool capri and 4x mr2 mk1's made an interesting line up. took some videos, but there not that good, i'll post them at the end of the pics. someone mention pics? what I came to see, taken after it blew all its water out we're talkin' all steel internals, twin 45s, grp 1 exhaust, ht cam (one of only 3), lotus cortina 'box, 5 linked and compresion struts + much more. he took it to 10000 rpm on the very last lap. yes, thats right, TEN THOUSAND RPM PINTO!! in a road car ;D another guy I know, mat's stage 3 zetec on 45s took a thrashing all day long! needs jagermeister! real early m3 on a "d" plate busy pit lane tr7-v8 looked a little chilly for today! e30 325i behind.

pit time! mat inspecting an oil leak and geaorge's dismembered. at this stage I had no idea george had gone to BSE to get a flaming head gasket. when he got back, we refitted this- and had it running in 20 mins (3 of us), left him 1 hour 15 mins of track time, phew! and now some videos. I'm learning to use a digi vid cam, and my fist time at a track, so they not that great, but you get the idea of speed and noise ;D think i need a mic muff on it because it pics up wind noise and distortion v. bad. back straight speed! corner! into the sun, sorry! first time fire up after the head gasket main straight onslaught, george is the last blue car in the blur short jag and capri symphony and thats yer lot for today. enjoy

Fantastic pics (as usual) looked like a cracking day out. Havent watched the vids yet. 10,000 rpm in a pinto that should sound nice . I have had 7,000 out of a 2.1 and chucked a rod through the sump ;D Need to get the monza to a trackday soon and see how much fun it is.

heard him turning 9k on the straight, unbeleivable! think I need to do a track day some time soon. capri doesn't handle enough and may irritate others in and round the bends, moggy would throw a rod down the looooong straight. finish 2002, track day here I come! think its about £160 for an open pit lane day (all you can eat) or about £90 for a 3 session pass day.

probably go to elvington for my first one. 90 quid ish for an open pit lane. Croft is a bit nearer but 140 Its hard for me to justify when I am used to spending a tenner for a days autotesting Got to be done though.

I can't wait until I can have a go in the Porsche I've done a couple of corporate smooozing days, one at Donnington for Merc and one at Prodrive's airfield for Subaru, but I've never done a lap unaccompanied

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

saph being overtaken by bike engined kit car. by the look on the kit car drivers faces (there was another) they've found the only way of increasing the engines performance on the cheap- put it back in the bike! ... Not quite sure what you mean? They looked bored!?! most unusual track car; audi 80/90 Hahaha... just you wait 'til next year...

Not quite sure what you mean? They looked bored!?! they got slaughtered down the straights by all the evos, but to them it must have been really annoying to behind a seat leon most of the day they're just not that quick down the long snet straights compared to the big guns. in a corner they're terrific, mostly down to the superb "7" type suspension and 450kg weight. but the bike is always gonna be faster down the straights and out the corners than a 7, 4 wheels got the edge in the twisties tho the glum faces looked like they were thinking the same. didn't get a pic of the most "out there" track car on the day, a honda concerto!!!
