I've been out driving about in my Mk3 Passat GT tonight and I have to say it is the shizzz!!11 It's got huge big comfy velour seats, electric windows, electric mirrors, central locking (all of which work!!!) and a really nice, torquey 1.8 8 valve mota out of a late Mk2 Goof GTi. I've never really owned a genuinely quick car before and it really does feel more punchy than the engine size suggests. It's certainly got enough go to easily dispatch a Bimmer 728i, although maybe that's not such a good example ;D The only problem is it's only a fill in car until the P1zzle is done

I'm in line behind Dave Hehe Autohousedolby in 'not noticing G60 charger bolted to front of engine' shocker! What engine code are the GTs? Is it the same as my Rocco Storm (DX)? That was hugely torquey low down and just kept pulling, you could plonk it in 5th at 25mph and accelerate through to *cough* 70mph officer

See I guess that must be similar in size and go (2 litre 8v injection Octavia) and while yes it is roomy and comfy and reliable, it is dull, and the engine noise is so intrusive on the motorway.
It feels fairly quick and wheelspins everywhere (even in 3rd off roundabouts in the damp) but I wouldn't trust the bloody thing for a safe overtake of anything moving quicker than a milk float. Absolutley no pickup when you need it. Flat as a kippers cock. I want some punch in my driveway again.

Later cars are full of computer bits to slow em down and loads of extra weight for "safety" curse word

Yeah, my rocco was only 112bhp which is naff all in a car these days but it was bloody rapid where it mattered. That sort of power in a brand new golf is just dull.

It's Digifant - the GL Passats aren't and have a different engine BHP was different back in the day when everything was black and white. I've driven plenty of new cars that should be really exciting but are just curse word

Oh yeah, and ;D at not noticing if it's a G60 ;D ;D ;D ;D I've spent a good proportion of my day trying to work through a fan not coming on issue it's got - the curse word coming out of the coolent system had to be seen to be believed! Tomorrow I've got to find out why it's misbehaving. It'll only come on if you let it get really hot, then turn the ignition off. Ignition back on = fan goes off. Very strange. I'm going to flush out the rad and change the fan switch

I really like the old B3 Passat. I think it's whole charm lies in the fact that it is so dull, almost a factory Sleeper. I no an old ad who's got a Passat GT 16, but the Tart won't sell it Looks abit like this one, only a saloon, and not slamed

Yes, know what you mean. It produces 130BHP? Where? My 91BHP 1850 is infinitely more flexible than this......etc etc...

Yes love these ones too. This one was at last years RR show, someones on here? Well nice all the same. Although IMO doesn't need the BB bonnet/eyebrows and twin headlights. Wheels, colour, stance and general condition were superb though. There was also one at Bug Jam this year with what i believe to be a Cosworth turbo on it, (was it this one?).
