And some more...
Bumpers:
Wet flatting
Another layer of primer
Front bumper fittings treated with Dinitrol
I've also been working on the corner lights. I am using those that came from the 245GLE, because the lenses are good. The 'before' shot:
Dismantling for refurb. The right lamp has accident damage. It has been twisted, and the lens fits badly. Long-term, I'll find a better lamp, but at the moment I need to press on and avoid spending money where possible! So a repair is needed.
Volvo used two lamp manufacturers, Cibie and Hella. Both my lamps are Hella, but as you can see they are different
I cut the deformed parts of the casing with the grinder, to allow it to be heated, bent and glued into the correct shape
Glued, flatted and primed
The alternative Cibie corner lights have the inside painted silver. In my opinion, this gives a cleaner, brighter look than the dull black Hella moulding, so I decided to paint mine sliver.
Sprayed with a white base....
... then silver. Reassembly tomorrow when the paint is dry.
Headlights:
I found the best pair of trims from my stock and cleaned them.
Same with a pair of wiper-stops, which fits around the lens
Finally for today, a eBay purchase arrived: a US spec 1979 Volvo station wagons brochure. Interesting to see the marketing approach and spec over there. The V6, with its emission control kit, had a fire-breathing 127bhp SAE...
More tomorrow
Cheers
John
