HaHa Woo I'd love a cossie ('Naturally!')! ;D I often wonder why I didn't yog my money on one instead of a 3 door with an 8! It just happened but reasons would include; insurance, worry of trashed cars, and engine costs. they are at bargain money now, not retro museum money but fast car project. I think if I was looking an old sierra with crazy engine, I'd be wanting to do some right good checks, take a sierra geek and Cosworth dude with me, and run a bunch of HPI checks! Theres some ace ones about, but given the money id like to give one the treatment in one way or another! What gets My goat most like is that I don't hardly recall seeing non Cossie or XR features in mags etc. Anyway, anyone got any MINT (no cig burns or big/medium wear) cloth Recaro's for sale at a bargain price? PM me

Was there a 2-door saph?
I reckon some inventive surgery on one could work rather well...
I like them better than the three-doors, personally.

When was the last time anyone spotted a Sierra Wagon?
I remember Max Power featuring one in the mid-nineties in Volvo T5 yellow and V6 running gear...

MWF, the Impreza has the same suspension setup as the Saph pretty much. The Impreza's good handing comes from the Boxer engine's low centre of gravity and the very good 4x4 system.
A guy down the road from me had a saph that he reconed was running 350bhp..... on a standard turbo. I doubt it is possible, but am I wrong?

The standard T3 is supposed to be pretty much at it's limit at 350bhp according to forums. That's why most people stop there with just the boost wound up a bit, new injectors, remap, stronger actuator, better breathers etc... because it's relatively cheap.
I see what you mean about the Impreza suspension Adam, it isn't that far different at all. One of the key problem areas with the Sierra seems to be the rear end which suffers massive camber issues with the back squats.

Can this be sorted by adjustment, Id love to squat mine in teh weeds some more but don't want to be running on the rim edge and the contact path of a moped! ;D

However you can also get shims to help correct the camber with a lowered back end.

Good to know for the future, cheers MWF , after the MR2 the Sapph feels like a Donk, so the 3 door may get some Stick hitting!

Excellent cars and anyone who says otherwise is far too narrow minded and really really needs to drive one, how can you call an XR4i retro and not a saph cosworth?, they're a proper weapon and the saph is SO unassuming! I like sierras on the whole, i drove a silly quick RWD Cosworth a few years ago and it was like driving a sierra, but really really quickly , loved it, if it made me a little nervous It's a ford so suffers the ford problems, but get a good one and it'll look after you. The chavvy image really isn't deserved, most of the y00f have lost interest in these, now favouring RWD J tin with "neons and rimz" and the younger owners who have them tend to be serious about performance.

Most realistic Cossie owners happily admit there are better value, better performing and more reliable cars out there. True, a friend of mine ones a stage 3 Escort Cosworth (not retro but a classic IMO) his wife owns a standard Evo 8, he admits the evo is as quick as standard. But lets face it the Escort is cooler by a long way! The same goes for the saff and 3 door, there are cheaper and more reliable ways to go as fast or faster (R-32 Gtr are soooo cheap now). But few do it with as much style. Plus any real ford-a-phile does not care....... As for this comment....... Chav car.......always have been always will be. .......is the Capri still a chav car? ;D Sierra rock end of!

The Mk 3 is yes.
I've driven a couple of 'Cossies' and i agree with CappuchinoCruiser. It is like driving a Sierra. The one i drove had a cracked dash pad, as you shut the doors it felt as though the door panel would fall off. I drove and Escort 'Cossie' the same day and a Lancia Delta and must say that the Escort impressed me the most. The sierra felt like a Sierra with a Cosworth engine shoved in where as the Escort felt like a well put together car, I don't like any post 1962 Fords BUT was impressed with the Escort.

MWF, the Impreza has the same suspension setup as the Saph pretty much. The Impreza's good handing comes from the Boxer engine's low centre of gravity and the very good 4x4 system. Geometry wise the rear suspensions of the 2 cars are totally different The Impreza doesnt have the camber &Toe change under Bump and roll that the Sierra Trailing arms provide The RS500s were modified to aleviate some of this and if you find a Pic of the 909 Group A trailing arms, they are Cast Aluminium and have a Totally different (and adjustable) mounting arrangement.. The Standard Sierra geometry problems get worse if you lower them. The Impreza Link set up is much much lighter too and loads of adjustment as standard. I like Saphs in a strangely Chav way, there are no airs and graces about them and the 2wd Sapphire was the Fastest of the standard offerings.... do exactly what they say on the tin They were a Factory Hotrod in effect..... shopping trolley/Taxi with a Great engine, just ripe for serious tweaking... I think they are Retro wheras the 3 dr`s are considered the "Classic" Cosworth .......thats the difference A Saph will be Retro but never Classic IYSWIM I had the Full Cosworth 3 mth experience with mine.... 3dr, in Moonstone, Bought it, Chipped it, Ragged it, stole it (Well someone else did that but you get the general Idea) Great experience but The Integrale I bought with the Insurance payout was a car I still miss today Integrale would be bought to Cherish wheras a Cossie would be bought to abuse badly ;D Which is how to get the best out of them ;D
