I'm ashamed to say that I have just got back from leaving my beautifull imp upside down in a field. Currently I feel like the sort of worthless scum that I have always argued shouldnt be alive let alone legally allowed on the road. I was driving down a road near where I took those photos the other day that made my car look so beautifull, when I came up to a fairly tightish left hander going downhill. I was carrying too much speed for the conditions/corner, the back end stepped out which i tried to correct, but the back end clipped the verge bringing the front end of the car round. The combination of that and my over correction sent the car towards the wrong side of the road, where i hit the fence/hedge and fell down a deep verge into a field where the car landed on its roof. This accident was 100% my fault. I was enjoying myself too much and have simply proved that I am not responsible enough to be in control of a car. The fact that I was on my own and I enjoyed the roads I've driven on before made me think I was a better driver than I am. I drive so extremely differently when I have someone else in the car with me- much, much safer. Over and out from a VERY dispondant Frank. Pictures here Not entirely sure as to the extent of the damage yet

Gutted! Doesn't look THAT bad from the pics you've posted, it seems you've had a soft landing, a lot of that will push out. Go grab yourself a night's sleep, take it easy tomorrow, you'll most probably be a bit stiff even if you think you won't be. At least you've survived to tell the tale.
And don't beat yourself up over pushing the car to the limit....we all do it, and I'd like to bet most of us have been where you are.

Really sorry it ended tits-up for you mate. Was a real looker too. If within your skill set.... nows the time to begin a rebuild if possible. Sounds like the cliche'd saying is appropriate, at least you are OK.

Can't see the photos at work but I just wanted to say a) well done for walking away without damage to the important part of the car/person combo (ie you) and b) I think most of us have been there when it comes to pushing our cars too hard don't beat yourself up about it, that's what empty country lanes are for

Don't be so hard on yourself man! I'm sure you're gutted about your car, but you were just enjoying it! The fact that it was a quiet road and you were on your own is the important point. It's the idiots who fill their cars with teenage chums before rolling them on the local one-way system in a race she should feel gutted, not you. You've rolled a car and are OK enough to be typing a message about it on here - you should be a whole lot happier than you sound!

Blimey. Seems to be the thing to do at the moment. Glad you are ok too! Just proves that Retros are NOT as dangerous as some would make out in a crash.
I think I'm going to start driving a little more cautiously - I've already had one non-fault accident this year which was horrible enough.

don't beat yourself up about it - the little one doesn't look too bad from the photo's..... I don't think there's a single one of us on here that hasn't cooked it a little when we're on our own. As long as you're in shape to get her back on the road! ;D

Glad to hear you are ok, that's the most important thing right now. As AK said, there's no broken glass so hopefully the damage isn't too deep, a new engine cover and some light massaging of the roof panel willl have it sorted in no time at all. Start up a Readers Rides thread to keep yourself motivated with repairs

Ooof, sorry to hear that and glad you're OK. As has been said if there's no broken glass then the shell can't be particularly badly damaged. I vote for get it going again, leaving the dents so that you can casually tell people, "yeah it got a bit banged up when I rolled it into a field..." Be happy

Ooohhh harsh, glad your ok mate. I did exactly the same thing in my first imp, fortunatly i didnt land on the roof, but i hit a tree. It was a similar situation, greasy road, for me a lack of experience driving, downhill right left combo. The back end stepped out, fish taled as i tried to control it, then the tree approached and hit the passenger side, good bye stiletto! Again i would never drive close to the edge with passengers, i just wouldent be able to deal with it ifsomething bad did happen. As for the crash strength of the imp, i was talking to Ben from the imp club, he had met a chap who did the crash testing for the imp. It wasnt qiute as high tech as todays testing, but i think better! They would drop it on its roof from 2 storys up! And other various different smashing techniques, not too sure how, but those skinny pillars are pretty strong! Either way it obviously very trecherous (sp?) conditions out there, try and stay on the black stuff guys and gals J

Thats the second one on here. don't feel bad man just learn about your imps character and slippy roads, full of banana skins and diesel half of it is luck. My sis just battered her boyfriends clio too. its that time of year it seems. I'm back in big hi rise (compared to MR2) Sapph so a little steadier...

don't worry about it dude, the only damage here is your roof and your pride , but you've learned from it. No one died, no real harm done.. OK so you pushed a little too much, but you've learned from it Glad YOU are OK, that's the important bit
