Hi all I've seen a lovrly looking and totaly standard Ren 21 Turbo phase2 for sale localy. It's the dark metalic blue used on the Quadra's although it is the standard fwd one. Superb condition and less than 100K on the clock. All I know about them is that I love them since my dad had a white one when I was at middle school. I'm aware they have problems with the ABS, like the sensors going etc and even back when they were still in production a front headlight assembly including the indicator was £250 as someone smashed my dads!! Now are they retro? Not that it matters I still love em!! So what do you know about them can you tell me more should I buy it? Oh and if I do the Cressy estate WILL be FOR SALE if anyone on here is interested?! Cheers look forward to a deluge of info LOL.

I used to own one.....95k miles when i got it,145k miles when some cow wrote it off.
I'd upped the boost to 1.2bar and the thing was on it's original turbo (garrett t3) and engine with no smoke/noise etc.
I had a cone filter and a scorpion exhaust on it too and the thing used to try to torque steer you into the nearest hedge/ditch everytime you tried to overtake :lol smilie:
All in all the thoroughly good motor.....you're right about the abs though!
Prima racing were always the folk to see about them too.

So so tempted but if i take it on i MUST SELL other cars.
My rents would screw if they knew i'd bought a 4th motor but hey they are going to Oz 4 6 weeks in a week so what they don't know can't hurt them etc!
Seriously though would anyone be interested in my 84 Cressida estate? Will have a brand new master cylinder fitted and fresh from a srevice. In general a very clean and tidy car (if a bit ugly) i don't like to say mint but it really isn't far off.
The BMW is also STILL for sale. It really must go. Cheap.

Most annoyingly i seem to have miss placed my rather expensive birthday present digital camera with all my pics on. It is a teaser but this is the ONLY pic i still have of it on PhotoBuk. It was said to be Saab esc when first posted on here. Like i say not the pretiest of cars but very clean and tidy and massive load carrying ability with back seats folded down. It cost me £600 to buy and when it's back from the garage the cost of the master cylinder and a service, so i'd like to atleast cover those costs or is that just asking too much!? Has original Toyota manual and sales receipt . It's also a South African import.

21 turbo's are officially the best car ever. I have had 3, An F reg phase 1, A K reg phase 2 And a H reg phase 2. I wish I still had the K plate one actually, it was near perfect having covered about 48,000 miles with 2 owners and had a cloth interior, which is a definate bonus. The F reg one needed a turbo after 120k miles and also had a small problem that meant the trip computer didn't work very well. this was most annoying as the only fuel level gauge is in the trip computer. The K reg one had the usual problems. That being the resistor block for the heater blower being fooked, easily repaired though. Also dodgy electric windows and electric sunroof. The problem with the sunroof is easily fixed, there is a cardboard panel stuck to the inside of the roof which comes unglued and drops down stopping the sunroof from sliding. The H reg one was decent, pretty low mileage and reliable. I bought it one weekend and then drove it over for france the following week and did 1500 miles with no trouble. Some tool had put lowered front suspension springs on it though which made it ride proper shitly. Luckily someone from the club donated some standard ones to the cause which improved the car no-end. They get rusty around the screen and the rear arches. They also oversteer like fook, which is great as its really controlable. Beware of ones that have been messed with, tend to split liners if the boost is too high. Thanks to the longitudinally mounted engine and box power delivery is as smooth as fook, they also grip amazingly well. I think the ABS problems are often caused by crusty sensor rings, get a wire brush on them first, see if it cures it. The only car I have ever seen plums drive properly actually. Coming back from the Stoneleigh Kitcar show one year a pair of bellends shot past and obviously annoyed him, I think he ended up flashing them to move over as we breezed past at about 120mph... I want another one!! 145mph performace with great handling and I always used to average more than 35mpg on my commute or 40mpg on a motorway run. Very rare overhere though, there are only 2 for sale and both quadras, would much prefer another 2wd example.

These used to be quite popular with barries, a lot have been ruined by toss pot 'modifers'.

Indeed. They sadly became known as the French Cossie Eater in a lot of KrOoZe mags and some were snapped up by baseball cap wearing boost tuners armed with bleed valves and not a lot else.
I think they are a great cars with suprisingly sound engine designs but feel the fwd were fundementally flawed with unavoidable traction issues.

Youll be needing the turbo 21 quadra then, four wheel drive and came from the factory with carbon drive shafts!!!!! This is the one from the french super production series - J

Phase 1 is the way to go if possible. I managed to pick up a little gem about this time last year for just £250! It was fantastic fun but a little too high maintenance for my student budget. Typically French you might say. In the two months I owned it I must have got through at least 4 boost hoses, several coolant hoses, a starter motor and a water pump.
Don't let this put you off though, you wont regret having one, just be prepared to get your hands dirty.

A mechanic chap I know says not to buy the Quadra ones as parts are unavailable or at least too expensive to repair them. He not so long back scrapped a 21 Turbo Savana Quadra. SHame, rare car now. You can take that with the usual " a mechanic told me" pinch of salt, but I thought I'd pass it on.
