Evening RR'ers My patience has run out with the lancer, its too slow and boring and i'm starting to hate it! So i'm after a new daily. Preferably something hot hatch ish, and around £500. It must be able to eat up the miles asswell as stand up to some B road abuse, and not need too much looking after. I've got a few ideas, but has anyone got any suggestions or experience of any I may have overlooked? So far i've got: 80/90's Mazda 323Gti (the 3 door, not the fastback) 80/90's Mitsubishi Colt GTi ( the rectangular lighted wedge shaped one Mk2 Fiesta XR2 Peugeot 205 1.6 /1.9 GTi Anyone got any others to add? Not Golfs though please, i've had them before.... Cheers, Mike

My friend was obsessed with that type of Colt a few years back. They are pretty quick and handle quite well. They are quite well made too, and i remember my friend saying the engines are similar to the EVO 1 but without the turbo. How about a Nissan Sunny ZX. cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-SUNNY-TWINCAM-ZX-1800_W0QQitemZ300052356859Pretty bullETproof but I'm not so sure of the handling.

Alfa 33 16v. Most under-rated hot hatch of its era.
Screaming quad-cam flat-4, Multipoint Bosch injection, galvanised shell so won't rust, lots of toys - leccy windows all round, most had a leccy sunroof and possibly even mirrors.
137bhp, weighs sod-all, tail-happy handling.
I *loved* mine and wish I still had it.
Try and find the latest one you can - price will be on condition rather than age or mileage - but later cars had Recaro seats and are well worth looking for.
Things to watch - diff. bearings can wear if the gearbox oil isn't regularly changed, cambelts should be done on 36k miles (there's 2 of 'em and it's *very* expensive if one or both snap), they *can* rust around the petrol filler cap and along the rear slam panel under the boot lid.
Other than that, they're not too expensive to run, not too expensive to insure and most importantly, rare.

Renault 11 Turbo FTW!!
Decent handling, Nice little Turbo engine is quick but low tax. Easily modifyable if you desire and look great. You can get a decent(ish) one inyour budget as well

Toyota Corolla GTi ? (Lovely Toyota 4AGE engine ) And there are plenty on Ebay at moment for very small amounts of cash. Buy one with plenty of M.O.T as they rust in some very strange places ;D

All of the small peugeots of that era are KWALITY.
Years back I had a povo 1.1 205 and it was an absolute LARF to hammer along. Well 'till the brakes boiled at least. I'm sure Russell will remember that incident ;D
