Well the interior is coming on, the door cards are all done: They were manky beige, now they're lovely satin black (did I mention I love vinyl dye?!) Have added in the speaker grills, now I must admit I'm not exactly a fan of cutting uncut door cards. So I've tried to be as sensitive to the original style as possible by using OEM speaker grills, and well I'm pretty happy to be honest. The tweeters fit in quite well too I think, and will be hidden slightly by the door handle. And the job I've been not looking forward to for ages, the carpet, is done Have added a layer of lightweight sound absorption under the carpet, so hopefully it'll be a bit quieter than standard - half way done shown. And then the carpet - took a while, but doesn't look bad, and was a ton cheaper than buying one (can be such a Yorkshire man sometimes!) Now just need to clean up the seats, build up the interior and paint/fit the wheels!

apparently it just needs an MOT... I'm sure Andy will be here with an update in the next couple of days - once he's finished enjoying the fruits of his labours of course...!! Personally I can't wait to see it finished!

If anyone has Andy (or his lovely lady) as friends on Facebook they will know there is further news...
I'll let the rumor mill go into overdrive first though, I'm sure Andy will be along soon enough :-)

Hehehe! Not quite THAT sort of news, but I'm sure the car would be good for it knowing how much effort and attention to detail Andy has put in...

Well as usual the project has gone from quite a few jobs needing doing to the car being MOT'd, on the road and pretty much done without so much as an update in between! Of course it's never as easy as it being finished (are cars ever finished?) but it's pretty damn close. So, to catch you all up. We got the car together a couple of weeks ago (but have been waiting for some weather and time to get some nice photos!), the last big job being getting the interior and stereo in. If you ever want to finish a Capri fast, don't decide to put a double din stereo in! Fits really nicely now, but took a while to move the heater controls, switches and get it all in! And it finishes all the modern touches in the car, DAB and Bluetooth - fancy eh! There have been a few teething issues; the engine needed a huge amount of tuning, and isn't perfect yet, but it's not there yet. The rear left brake is also far from ideal as I had to re-rivet the lining onto it! Damn thing sheared of, yet somehow managed to scrape through the MOT! Anyway there's some new shoes in the post so that'll be fully fixed soon. There's been a fair bit of other fiddling, but on the whole there's not been too much rework, which is always good. Only big job left to do is to give the paint a machine polish and sort out a few blemishes, hopefully in next week or so Still it doesn't look too bad currently Enough talking, have more some photos from a little tour around Warwickshire on Saturday.

Nice one, looks great! How did you get the shot outside Pinley House? You would have had to get passed the barriers to get up the top like that!

Cheers Rich, and barriers are surprisingly easy to get through when they're open... We just drove in a took some photos, not a sole around! (Probably not meant to be that easy is it....) Great, they can't really complain then if the barriers are open! Just don't tell everyone how great our security guards are or everyone will be using it for photo shoots. I do like the fact you got a nice shot of a Ford outside though, it's going to be a few years before mine gets parked there!

Wow! Now that is quite a transformation. Whilst it would be nice to see it lower I can appreciate what the build of this car was all about, having it as a usable hack. It looks lovely I have to say, and whilst the retro lovers may disagree, I reckon the Double DIN HU with DAB and Bluetooth is a nice touch and works with the ethos of the car. It is good to see the Cappa being enjoyed as intended . However, when Monkeep mentioned rumours, there was me thinking he was referring to other matters!

Looks fantastic! When do we get the sound recording then? . How quiet is it inside? Do you have a refined Capri?

Thanks for the kind comments guys Whilst it would be nice to see it lower I can appreciate what the build of this car was all about, having it as a usable hack. It is good to see the Cappa being enjoyed as intended . However, when Monkeep mentioned rumours, there was me thinking he was referring to other matters! I know what you mean about lows, the back end was an inch lower, but in a moment of common sense we decided to raise it back, rather than lower the front more to match! Boring I know, but it looks fairly well stance'd for something aimed at coping with speed bumps! As for Si (Monkeep) and rumors, well I will finally be getting back onto the Mk1 this evening so that might excite some the crazy plan is to do a shakedown build (read not pretty!) on it and run it up the hill at RRG, but that's not a small amount of work... Looks fantastic! When do we get the sound recording then? . How quiet is it inside? Do you have a refined Capri? No recording yet, might get round to it at some point, or you'll just have to wait for RRG but refinement wise I'm pretty pleased and even a bit surprised. Road noise is very good, better than a lot of modern stuff (thanks to soft bushes, 15" wheels, double isolated axles and better sealing etc. I would guess). The powertrain/driveline noise is well controlled, very little mechanical noise is heard in the cabin, and intake/exhaust noise is at a nice level. Ok so it's not got a quiet exhaust.... but it doesn't have any nasty booms and is nicely linear with engine speed/load. Most importantly it doesn't tire you out on a long drive, in fact it's almost as relaxed to drive as my Saab 9-3 and that's totally standard! I'd even go so far as to say it has some ok sound quality, but that's very subjective! Otherwise, wind noise is there, but isn't intrusive below 80mph (no worse than a modern B segment hatch back), and there are no obvious squeaks or rattles, which is a minor miricle! So yeh, pretty damn happy with it out of the box in terms of NVH

Really enjoyed reading this build - simple, understated, but with some lovely details. The only thing I'd say is that the front end looks like it's missing something - a detailed badge in the grille, maybe? And for a bonus, some acoustic engineering! I'm an audio engineer, so that I actually loved that bit. How did you work out the difference in exhaust pipe length?
