The weber on the scirocco has begun to play up a little on cold damp days, and I'm wondering if it's the air that's getting sucked in - the problem dissapears when the car is warm.
So I was wondering if I should divert the intake to the air box so it doesn't get direct air from outside, but instead bend it round 180 degrees so it's pointing towards the exhaust manifold.
Any thoughts / suggestions?

If the std airbox, there should be a vacuum operated flap that pulls air from an hose attached to a shroud around the manifold. However the shroud has often rusted off... but sticking the hose in the general manifold area should help.
There should also be a little heater element on the front of the carb, transferred over from the Pierburg.
Had any carb icing yet?

I wouldn't know if I had or not - never had it so...
The main problem I'm getting, is when I push the choke in when it's warm the next few times I stop the revs just drop and the car stalls. But once it's been re-started a few times it idels perfectly.
What does the heater element look like?
Also, there's a relay 'click' in the fusbox when the car is between cold and warm - any idea what this is (ISV?)

Yup this used to happen to my coupe S when the warm air feed pipe fell off. IOts the carb icing up apparently. I Just replaced the warm air feed pipe during the winter then took it off during the summer

I haven't got a warm air feed from the manifold to the airbox...bu**er.
Sounds like I'll be making one tomorrow Yes I have I've just bent the cold in take round 180 degrees, and I'll see what it's like on the way home...bit suspicious about the heater element bit...

The heater element is a little cylinder with a wire on it. They usually get thrown away. There should be a hedge hog element inside the manifold with a wire going to it (red or red and white). It sits directly under the carb. Check that it works - it gets really hot when it is going properly

Sounds like I don't have one then...the lowest wire I've got in that area is the idle cut-off valve.
Anyone got a pic of this heater element thingy?
Saying that - does the idle cut-off valve have a wire coming out of it?

Turning the cold air feed to the filter 180 degrees so it points at the exhaust manifold done the trick
