the other reason for the six wheel F1 car was to massively reduce the drag from the fronts, plus increased contact area and increased braking surfaces, car was almost competitive out the box despite the extra weight, let down by the tyre manufacturers having no data to go on for tyre designs and so not being able to make/test tyres fast enough. you want 6 wheels you should have been around in '81 the wolfrace sonic promotional car, built by Nick Butler, powered by two side by side rover V8 engines through a very trick jag back end with two diffs, engines were computer linked and synched, along with the gear changes. car is alive if not "well" in a barn in kent, sorry, cant find a better pic. you may notice the XR2 stlye wheels, well this is where ford got em from, they were wolfrace wheels.

Sorry about banging on about it but that oval '4 piston' engine is fugging awesome. Would it sound as silky as a V8?
Or as rough as a V4 usually sounds?

I'll see your Wolfrace Sonic, and raise you a Panther Six I remember this being in a tv ad for Timex watches when I was a kid ;D It's been a while, but if I remember right it had an 8.2 litre Cadillac engine and autobox mounted in the rear. The reason for the huge rear tyres is that all that weight in the back made for quite a bit of oversteer, obviously front end grip with 4 tyres was excellent which didn't help. Adding to the mix was the enormously torquey engine, so when you lifted off the throttle the engine braking was substantial, so if you lifted off mid-corner this was like hitting the brakes in a car which is already tail heavy Have a look here: www.coviniengineering.com/c6w/intro.htm "the first six-wheeled supercar" As long as you don't remember the Panther Six then

Not really but the sound of it is like no other bike, my "bike guru" in Santa Barbara had one and I have actually driven it but to really giving it all, real nice bike but the word in the bike community at the time was Honda NR = No Ready and that's a truth.....
There's a Honda dealer here in Stockholm that has one still sitting in the crate it came from the factory in, not turned a wheel, he calls it his retirement.....
DP says: Those 6wheel F1 cars are just soo cool....

That Thunderbirds car is a pile of something very smelly I've seen all the original designs for it (as a Rolls-Royce) and it was sooo much better. They really messed up the proportions and lost virtually all of the surfacing subtlety despite being given a full Alias 3D model of the design . BTW, the line off the front arches, that runs beyond the rear wheels was supposed to be a homage to the Hooper 'Empress Line' (one of many things that wasn't translated properly, as it doesn't flow correctly into the tail) and as for the T'bird front end which was stuck on later.... The Tyrell & Panther are superb though! ;D

That Thunderbirds Ford isn't as classy as the Rolls Royce This is the full-size copy built in the 60s to promote the film. I think it was based on a bus chassis.

I now bitterly regret not taking a picture of the 6-wheeled H-reg Rover Metro pick-up that used to live a mile or so away a few years ago.
