Obviously, at this point I'm going to suggest 5dr version of the Starlet (mine cost me £300 with full MoT).
The Autotrader thread recently showed that Stellar for about £250, and the Mazda estate there ought to be a great buy at £595 as it looks so clean.
Cortinas? Mate sold his 2.0 Crusader estate for £10 to the banger racers, and it really wasnt't that bad.
Lada? FSO?.........

Seems I've been led astray by a clueless ex-colleague. The guy had a scorpio and blamed its blandness on being FWD. Since the car didnt interest me I never looked beyond the ocasional lift to the pub I had in it so never had reason to question his clueless assertion. Which in turn has led to me making a fool of myself several years later.

Just a thought, Herald 1200 and 13/60 saloons are rather unloved, RWD and not stupidly expensive. The rear suspension is... interesting, but the package is pretty good for a '60s car. Probably not quite right for the spec but one has to stick up for one's own toys.

I reckon drifting a herald on full 'wheel tuck' would require much bigger balls than twatting about in a 700hp Skyline.

Hmmmm.
Bug eyed scorpios = cheap as chips + 24v V6
Mk1 escort estate - tiny 1300 xflow = hole in engine bay.
If only i'd paid more attention in maths.

I reckon drifting a herald on full 'wheel tuck' would require much bigger balls than twatting about in a 700hp Skyline. Speaking as one with experience - I let my co-driver do a lap of Silverstone after the 1996 RAC Classic Run and he didnt fully believe me about the rear suspension until we got to the Luffield complex - it's F****** frightening! Still, 3 wheel cornering shut him up about racing lines. ;D

I reckon drifting a herald on full 'wheel tuck' would require much bigger balls than twatting about in a 700hp Skyline. I REALLY needed someone with a video camera to film me take a "scenic" route on the deserted streets and roundabouts around Brent Cross shopping centre on the way home from the ace last week They can be made to handle pretty well - still wouldn't drift one, mind PheonixC, any chance of a video of the Herald for your Avatar

Nope, only the early 1300's and 1500's were FWD. Anything called "Dolomite" should be RWD. It is all confusing though as the body shapes are virtually identical!

Correct Seth. They actually had FWD in the 1300/1500 and THEN changed it back to RWD for the Dolomite! Does get confusing.
That Merc coupe is nice!

have to disagree with the shepa vans. i have worked with them my entire life and they are bags of sh*t thrown together. had a nasty accident removing steering box end in surgey on my fingers. basically box tube, 30pound sledge hammers and fingers don't mix!!! but shepas are shocking.
recommend oldskool rear wheel drives beetles, old toyotas corrola and starlet,

As has been mentioned capri's are rock bottom, I picked up mine for about £40 (and proceeded to spend ten times that in one week to get it on the road but meh), would love to see one in trampdrift.
