Theres plenty of manuals kicking around. very safe handling as standard. My first car was a 345 1.4, max speed 84mph. I was very impressed with the chevette I got after this ;D
They are a good basis for a project but need a little work to make them handle. 1.4 is very underpowered. 1.7 and 2.0 are both fairly nippy

The Volvo 340 drift bandwagon has been gathering pace for a little while now! They are cool little cars IMHO. Look surprising cool slammed on some wide rims too. They are leaf spring at the back so easy to drop. Transaxle. Engines are Renault based. Clio 16v and Volvo 440 Turbo engines have been swapped in and bolt up to the bellhousing. Not sure the full volume of work needed mind. Link to a chap with a 440 Turbo engine in his..... www.huskyracer.50megs.com/

360GLT was the power-house as standard but has a torque tube making clutch change a bit of a pain.
Very odd pedal position as well I thought but nice, in a boxy kind of way!

When i was a kid my best mates perants were volvo owners, His mum had a blue 4 door 340 or something which i think was a V reg, they sold that and got a 240 estate and then sold the estate and got a late F-reg 360 (i think) with rubber wing! However by far the best one was owned by his dad, He was a painter/ decorator type and used a W reg 2 door in a mustard yellow colour as his 'work horse' It was a proper decorator wagon. tatty with a ladder on matt black roof bars and a boot/back seat area filled with white dust sheets and paint tins!
I so need one of these.

I really like the quirky looks of them and am glad they're becoming more popular. I would definitely consider one In the future. Especially as they're cheap and RWD.

Great cars, my parents both had two 1982 340GL's, then when I could drive and afford insurance on a 360glt - I just had two, and am on my second now! 340 - came in 1.4 and 1.7 renault based engines, despite what people say the 1.4 does a very impressive job of lugging a big (but deceptively not *that* heavy) car around. Both, especially the 1.7 can have carb issues. Dude, 84mph? Dunno what was going on there... my mates 1.4 4 speed would do 100mph with 4 hefty people on board, the 5 speed more like 105-110mph. 360 - came in two forms, 2.0 carb and 2.0 injection. Both low down torquey things and Volvo engines. Redblock turbos have been known to be swapped in There's a pretty big following at 300mania.com: Prototype 363CS - only one of seven left, fitted with a 2.8 PRV engine

I had to put a lot of effort into getting that 84mph out of it ;D. It was relatively nippy upto 70 but above that nowt. It was one of the early ones, the same style as the gold one for sale further up there. I think they weighed in at around 1000kg plus/minus 50kg depending on spec, which was fairly heavy for the time (compared against chevettes/escorts and the like) but not a particularly heavy car.

Yeah that's about right, the low spec 1.4 3 doors weigh about 950kg, something like that. Although bear in mind it's external dimensions are closer to a Sierra than Escort!
