that came out of left field..............curse word thats real bad news...............I was liking it over AutoItalia these days.
Can I ask why manaagement made this decision ?
not in line with portfolio ? not profitable enough ? not enough sales ?

Ive got every issue and got to admit it, the mag had suffered a decline over the past couple of years. I still enjoyed the mag though and I thought the last few issues (probably since C.A.R.S.) its been improving steadily so I think its a real shame.
If the closure was a sales decision, I still cant understand how it was no longer viable when the retro car business is increasing, especially when compared with a lot of other magazines that must have a much smaller circulation and readership potential can keep running.

Lovely post on the Retro Car Club Forum - almost word for word what was posted here except for a slight difference.........
Made me chuckle - alright laugh - a lot
Sorry to see it go it was times a good read but it lost it's way in the wilderness and i'm betting readership too.........
A brief rally before the end was not enough to save it.
Move on

I found this mag increasingly harder to find over the last year, which no doubt never helped sales... when the only real magazine retailer Library "WHSmut" (I exclude supermarkets as magazine retailers) in a largish market town stop stocking it and it takes them three months to get me a copy again on a regular basis the writing is on the wall

no great loss IMO. It was an extremely mediocre mag in all respects, 'superficial' was its middle name.
Lots of nice shiny colour pics mind you.
Theres defo room for a good 'retro' mag though, Retro Driver could be it. Bring it on I say.

Shame it had to go though. I've bought all the last 4 issues (even though I was out of work for most of the time) as it had improved again hugely, when I missed some during the poor phase mid the last 12 months.
I have been buying since issue one though, and still scanned through when deciding whether to buy or not.

And I just got my incredibly expensive international subscription. Maybe I can be compensated with back issues, that'd be awesome

I have to echo the sentiments of others; I had been buying it monthly for a long time but the quality had dropped...and only really picked up over the last few issues.
Best of luck to everyone involved with any of their new ventures.

Lovely post on the Retro Car Club Forum - almost word for word what was posted here except for a slight difference......... Oh yeah so i see! Fair enough, our feedback/discussion wasn't all praise. As i said before, down to loose change, i usually buy what i feel i have to buy or whats best at smith/good newsy.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Do you think that there may be a slight, slight chance that the editorial team allowed themselves to be guided by 'another forum' The 'close ties' has intregued me for a while....

I think RC tried to cover too many areas and to some extent went too modern in its cars; Alfa 75/Porsche 924's are old, but as Retro Cars..............now, if they had done the 'Super Marina' they threatened a few years ago, or a Mk4 Cortina with Zetec power, XE-engine Viva or something along those lines, like PPC did, then the readers would have stayed. They lost focus, direction and finally sales. End of story.

I've never had any luck finding this mag in the city of London. Even WHSmith in Liverpool St station (which is a pretty large store) never stocked it. None of my local shops in Kent stocked it. How can a magazine grow its readership if you can't get the damned thing!?
RIP Retro Cars. You will be missed.
