Do it, Doug!
How far is it away from ye? And can you plot a route that would involve no stationary traffic?
Would £35 splurged on trailer hire be too much of a cross to bear?
I believe 'Marina_Koop_Pick-up_V8_Rob' is the man for V8 cooling issues. You must speak to him.

I had a 100E with a V6 in a small engine bay and an electric fan on a switch. Didn;t need to switch it on much unless I was caught in heavy queueing traffic. Its probably not done many road miles since built.

It's 120 miles roughly, about 2 hours 15 minutes. Looks like mostly M5/M42 work. In fact, it seems to be totally on those two roads. That's probably 200+ quid on a trailer, I would have thought which is reasonable but quite an extra splodge

Bit by bit more pictures filter through........ Think it needs some carpet. Looks a bit 'ghetto' in there but if it works... Engine looks sweet in there tho ;D Would prefer a big Holley 390 on that though, instead of EFI Bet it'd be a whole lot tidier/accessible/less likely to go "BOOM". Could ditch the ECU and all the wiring then!

Will be standard Sprint - good for 300lb/ft with ease The Rover V8, believe it or not, actually fits quite well with a little prod to the LHS suspension turret and some tight-fittin' fannymoulds. The only access issues you can get can be to the plugs and to the oil filter (sits next to rad IIRC), so you are best off using a remote filter for that In this instance they've modified the RHS rocker cover to fit around the brake master, taken a chunk out of it. Got the engine well back! This is the one in Adams

Lewis, don't give the lad ideas. We'll never hear the end of it!
Esp. as we just sold a honey of a 3.9 wrapped up in a rot-free rangey wrapper.

Word is the Weber / Edlebrock 500 carb is a far better bet than the Holley 390

Carter AFB is an ooooold carb. Not even sure if Carter put their name on carbs any more? They were bought out and now owned by Edelbrock, not sure if they still are, but I think so. Hense Edelbrock's carb lineup, which are derived from older Carter designs. The Performer carb is based on the old Thermoquad or something I think and the "Thunder AVS" is a modernised Carter AVS. I think you can still get AFBs as reconditioned units but Edlebrock don't list them (or didn't last I looked)
I think with a lot of these things the recommendation comes as a matter of nostalgia. Back in the 60s they were the carb to have. Times have moved on since then.
I have a Carter AFB-625 on my Buick and its a good carb, no complaints. I don't regard it as the be-all and end-all though.
I also have to wonder if they do one the right size for the Rover? Most of the yank engines that size were fed by 2 barrel carbs. There was a Carter 450 (an AVS series I think?) which may well work well on the Rover, thought about this myself before, again, not sure if they are available any more. People used to use two of them on a tunnel ram or blower. They were also an economy retrofit on larger engines to try and trim the MPG in the 70s/80s

Well, you do have a fair point there - but it all depends on how well it's been done I guess. If it's all wierd wires, random bits of croc-clips, dodgy high pressure lines and so on.......that's why I was thinking of tearing it out you see Plus it would tidy up the top of the engine a treat, my local garage also highly recommended an excellent spec using the 3.5 that could result in almost 200BHP on a Holley 4 barrel, which was the main drive Not clued up at all on tuning up the EFi system? I'll report back when I find out. Should be collecting this weekend!
