Right mammoth cut and paste session from the caddy forum will begin.... So seeing as the for sale ad didn't go anywhere and the first donor looks like it'll be a daily it was time for a new direction. Bolt in 2.9 anyone ;D So the big day arrived, I got up early. Found the van under all the rubbish Moved all the branches some chunt had dumped in front of the garages, pulled the van out, swapped the rear wheels so that it rolled and pushed it across the road, parked the rado at a jaunty angle and took a snap There was lots of other stupid logistics done like getting the hoist out of the BMW, fitting a new battery to the VR6, re fitting the old battery to the Audi yada yada. Pumped up the tyres on the 'rado. Looking at the stance I think the last owner had been taking it down the strip. Nose down, up!

Right so the build had stalled a little bit, due to life taking over but has been making slow progress. The Van now has a 5 stud rear axle, including rear discs. Had to re-do the brake pipes to fit the later style load compensator - all just bolts in my Mk3 golf petrol tank installed as well - corrado one doesn't fit Clutch MC fitted Loom repair. There's a special place in hell reserved for alarm fitters that do this kind of thing The top wire didn't have any insulation on in the car! It's a live for the ECU This wire looks like it was cut by mistake and joined again:rolleyes: The two chopped wires on the left went off to the alarm - ign live immobilised Note how short the wire is going to the multipin - no way to recover that the wire has gone hard from the heat of being soldered Size comparison of the wires - the joined alarm wires are half the size of the original wire(bang) As the wires were so short there was no point in trying to connect on to them again. I could have done it but wouldn't have been happy with the results. So I chose to replace the wires with spares I had which were pre terminated from another loom multipin - hording Monkey ;D Removing the pins with the damaged wires Stick the tool in one side and pull on the wire from the other - easy. The problems removed Wire comparison Pins: Old on the bottom, new on the top. New wires inserted The joins - all soldered up ready for heat shrink. Remember to put the heatshrink down the wire before you join them The finished result, ready to go into the golf - lost the color coding for the first few inches but it's only the striping

That was really a rather nice pretty looking corrado that you've wrecked to save some rather shonky looking old van. Sometimes I just don't understand the mentality of people.
You'll be hankering after those ropey old farmers trucks next.
Looking forward to seeing this van finished at RR12.

What's this 'rat' look you speak of?
I cannot believe that the man who built one of the spankiest caddys ever even has that word in his vocabulary.
I have a feeling it wont be the usual half ar5ed, sticker-bombed, forced rust, tat-on-the-tow-eye abortions that are all too common at the moment.
Oh and shell out on some more solder sleeves you tightwad, your soldered and shrunk wires look like a snake that swallowed a donkey.

Thats sounds pure evil; now searching ebay for cheap vr6s there's plenty of 'em! ;D Todays fun... New front fitted. Front bumper had taken a proper whack at some point. Had to split the cover from the metal bumper bar/irons. Straighten the bar and irons then re-fit it all. Looks good conisdering. Does nayone know if GTi's with front fogs have a different front valence?? There's no way I could get fogs in, they hit the valence before they are anywhere near fitting in the bumper. Filled with coolant and seems to idle much nicer now Column issues... The van was previously left unlocked near a pub and I think someone decided walking home was too much trouble - so they smashed the steering lock and hot wired it. The police found it and then van came back - this all happened with the previous owner. Any way all that fun left me with this when I fitted the new steering lock and stalks. Muchos bent, this won't do at all. So off come the stalks and out comes the inner shaft with steering lock - easier to do it that way than use a puller on the spline adapter Leaving me with this Here's one I bought earlier..... Original damaged column on the left / bottom New undamaged column in place Shaft and lock back in place Stalks on again Nice and straight:thumbs_up Up to date shots with dash and column surround in place.
