Need to fit something on the end of this.. Which ends here And has made a big black mess where I've been running the van without a backbox First things first the cutout on the rear panel is smaller than the cutout on the bumper Grinder soon sorted than out. The panel is already pressed in the correct shape so it's easy to follow that when cutting. Also removed pesky ABS sensor which has been trailing the golf since I fitted the Corrado axle Much better ;D The backboxBig ugly backbox from the Corrado. Ugly, poorly fitted with twine when i picked the corrado up but a powerflow stainless item so not all bad! That tailpipe is for the chop - Fouls on the back panel and prevents the box from being fitted high enough GONE! Repeat for the other side Rear mount, only tacked in this pic The tailpipeWoo shiney, at the risk of proving Reg right I couldn't resist a little clean/polish of the oval tailpipe. Tailpipe cut from here...... this is the original exhaust system from the mk1 Toledo ABF donor I used for the Caddy. Comparing tips - much better ;D Tip tacked in place Yup, I like that, lets make it happen..... Backbox off again, tacks on both sides now You can see earlier I'd chopped the remaining flange of the old tailpipe into sections to make it easier to shape. Flaps bent down and welded into place to meet the new tailpipe. Pics, we all love pics Engine plastics in place, small thing but feels much more complete now Dash blank for the old Diesel timing advance/choke cable handle Ugly hole Over engineered blank - couldn't believe it has a screw in the back Much more tidy Views from the driving seat - would have wound me up looking at the hole

Cheers dude. It's not that tough a swap, when you have a late mk2 with CE2 fusebox and a Corrado donor. It's just VW Lego A lot of stuff just fits, some other bits need a bit of massage to fit but for the most part the bits are 90% there before you start. The wiring is easy, the loom is even in the right orientation. Widetrack rear brake compensator wasn't much fun to plumb in, might have been more careful removing the brake lines from the Corrado if I'd known! The VR6 does look right at home in a mk2, the plan is to take it up the hill at the gathering, see if that engine goes as well as it looks ;D

It's pretty quick, I'm quite chuffed with it ;D Few jobs left to tidy things up but we're in good shape for taking this to the Gathering and hoofing it up the hill

Drove this to Birmingham today as the daily Audi is playing up. Hilarious drive, van didn't skip a beat. Even with a slipping clutch it's the most fun I've had in a VW. I grin like an idiot each time I drive it.

I have to pass on some info I only found out the other day as I'm converting my mk2 to widertrack/5x100 and 2E etc...
The "widetrack" rear beam isn't actually widetrack at all! Only some obscure base model mk3s with rear drums had a 20mm wider rear beam, needless to say this annoyed me slightly as I'm on with swapping my rear beam, but in reality I only needed to change the rear discs!
Did you use the entire corrado engine bay loom or just the engine side of it? I'm unsure whether to strip the engine wiring out of it or fit the whole engine bay loom then modify plugs for the fan, switch, headlights etc...

The mk2 and Corrado both have 2 looms in the engine bay which go through two separate holes in the bulkhead to the fusebox. I left the golf lighting loom in place and swapped the engine loom in from the corrado. The Mk2 lighting loom has the fan wiring in it but I used the corrado rad+fans and the corrado fan module so the golf wiring became redundant. Just had to depin one connection at the fusebox on the headlight loom and swap the fan controller pin in there instead. The fan controller sets fan run on if required, runs the extra electrical coolant pump and does things a bit more intelligently than just a switch. For the rear beam, I thought the 5 stud beams had passive rear wheel steer and better antiroll bars as well?

Ahh yes, the mk2 does have 2 seperate holes, as does the mk3, but then it all joins into one, then seperates again You maybe right on the ARB being thicker, I'l have to compare them. As for passive rear wheel steer thats a new one to me and I've been messing with dubs of this variety for quite a while. I know later 306s had passive rear steer though. The mk3 beam looks absolutely identical to my mk2 GTI rear beam so I can't see how passive rear steer would work unless the trailing arms were seperate from the beam itself, which they obviously aren't. I'm really not a fan of stripping and seperating wiring so I'm gonna see how I go with just fitting the mk3 bay loom and modifying a few things like fan/headlight/alternator etc plugs

Yea mines a 90 spec car, that tool would be super helpful, just remove the plugs that don't fit and put the mk2 plugs on

Was nice to provide some VR6 action ;D I have to say though I do find it a little sad to see Corrado's being scrapped... especially VR6's I hear ya but it really wasn't a nice one though, a lot of filler on the front and back wings, some shocking wiring in places. Also the good parts have gone to help other corrados live on and be better examples
