righty, I have destroyed the gearknob on my sierra, I changed gears a bit aggressively and pulled the knob off and its kinda just fallen appart and all the insides have pulled out so it wont stick back on, cant get used ones because when you pull em off the insides fall apart because they perish and new lift reverse ones use grub screws to attach so wont fit
I know you can remove the gearstick with the lift reverse from the part that connects to the box, what I want to do is get that apart and just weld in a straight rod, tap it and shove on a normal gearknob, I want rid of the lift reverse anyways, so may as well do it now, seein as I have broken it ¬¬
from what I can gather there is a pin to knock out somewhere around the bottom, whats the easiest method to do this and where exactly is it?
thanks for any help

I know it's a pain in the rear! I can't remember exactly how the pin comes out right now, but I've got a few in bits at the garage so I'll check for you tomorrow.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

set about dismantling the gearstick today, found the pin to knock out (obvious once you get it apart) knocked it out expecting the stick to swivel round and pull off with relative ease, nope, yank on it hard, nope, try to knock it with a screwdriver and hammer, nope, tried a bigger hammer, still no, tried to use the screwdriver as a leaver, nope, heat, nope, swearing, nope!!got fed up and thought stuff it, take off the lift reverse mechanism and slide an m10 bar down the middle and weld it in...would that come off...NO, tried all of the above on it and got fed up, so slit it down each side with a grinder and then smacked it on the top with a big hammer, all split and fell apart, goodo, smack the lift reverse pin outa the way so I no longer need to lift anything to go backwards, win, what remained of the gearstick had a nice little nib on the top that was narrower than the rest of the stick, crackin, stud extender (basically a really long but) over the nib weld the hell outa the bottom of it so it sticks to the shaft good n proper, screw in some m10 threaded bar to the other end, screw on a lockin nut, tighten, heat shrink over the bar so its all nice and black, shove pool ball on the top and job done!! the results: can now have anythin I want gearknob wise with ease and no more bloody lift reverse!!! i just need to find some form of female to make me a new gator

Nice! Makes the fact that I couldn't find a stick pretty irellevent!
One thing though, be very, very careful selecting fourth gear.

haha, aye, thanks for looking though drove 100 miles today and its not happened, not even thought about it, just drove as normal and alls been fine more likely to do it in the Capri with the SX box and quickshift, makes gears very close together, in the sierra they are miiiiles apart, will be no problem at all

I'm not really sure i understand your post, but did you remove the locking circlip if you couldn't get the stick out? You should have made a short shift while you were at it
