I just realised I know fugg all about Taunuses. I just thought they were a Euro version of the Mk3 Tina, but they're obviously completely different in a lot of respects now I look at them. I'll watch this thread with interest.

To be honest I think I prefer the look of the Cortina. There still nice though.

Nice selection of pics Mr_B. I love how they combine different elements of Mk3 and Mk4 Cortina styling, and the effect varies depending on whether they've got round or rectangular lights and what trim level they are. Rear pillar looks a bit more upright than Cortina?
The coupes are ace, lovely long roofline like a late 60's Torino.
2.0 V6 on some eh? Mad, why didn't Ford chuck a Pinto in? Life was so much more interesting then when manufacturers did irrational things like that.
Presumably they did an estate too?

pintos were not used because of German car tax regs. and the V6 2.0 Litre gives a smoother ride - although less BHP than a 2.0 litre pinto

spottedlaurell in da house: 2.0 V6 on some eh? Mad, why didn't Ford chuck a Pinto inAm I totally out here but, didn't they also fit the Cologne made Ford V4, same as used in Saab, in the Taunus also? ? Remeber when I was 18 driving an Amazon and a friend bought a Taunus GLX V6 Ghia LTD Coupe (the poor trunklid was full of letters & stuff) and wanted some more noice, he cut the whole exhaust and pulled out sidepipes, looked cool untill he started it up, the sound was almost painfull and not even close the "V8 sound" he had hoped for, cool car though..... DP says: Personally I like the older Taunus and the Van.........

Come to think of it I`ve got a feeling that MK5 fastback was for the Argentinian market. Should imagine it`d be complicated trying to import one here if thats the case. Its about time Nightmareracing moved onto Mk5s and made one!

If it was straight forward and reversible I`d do that to mine but I reckon major surgery would be needed, Bonnet and wings are nowhere near long enough and you couldnt just fit the lights and grille (even if you could you`d just end up with a MK2 Capri!)

just stick a tina front end on a capri and ur not too far off would Mk5 cortina front panels not just slap onto one of those Taunus coupés? We were saying only yestreday that the Taunus sub-stucture is pretty much identical to the Mk4 Cortina. Surely its not that big a deal.

That Tina 80-shape Taunus fastback is ace! Can't find too much more about it... 2.3 V6, 5 speed box. Argentinian as said. Quoted as being a Taunus 1 body, Cortina 80 front metalwork and mk4 Cortina back lights. Back end is a bit ungainly but not bad for a parts bin special! (from www.clubtaunus.com.ar/Nuestros-Autos.htm )
