I think that working on blandmobiles day in day out brain washes them in short order, leaving them numb to anything interesting. Interesting cars are just a nusiance as it takes time and thought to do things correctly on them, sounds difficult to me, must be bad then!

And this is why for a lot of cases, keeping work and pleasure seperate is wise in a lot of cases.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'm a mechanic, or technician as we're now called, and in the past i've worked in places where if anything old or interesting came in it'd be me who volentered to do it. No one else would want to know because people don't seem to like a challenge. I guess thats the case in a 9 to 5, you just want to do your job and go home and forget about it. I also know a few people who are more what you might call full time mechanics, as in when we finish work we go and lock ourselves in the garage and work on our own or other peoples cars. Not so much for money but because its what we do.
I guess thats the difference. Some people are in the motor trade because they see it as an easy way to make money, others are in it because its a way of life and wether we worked in a garage, office, or on a building site we'd still go home at night and get the spanners out rather than watch eastenders.

All of them. *n *trawls the depths of OCUK to find the proof of this* I hate computers too, and i only *used* to work with them. with mechanics though, i think if you get one slightly older then they are more likely to be into them, especially the more common cars they cut their teeth on, and the ones that were "cool" or desireable back then. a lot of the people i've had do anything on the car have commented on it in a good way (apart from the snobby bodyshop guy) even if it's just "don't see many of these about now" or "used to have one of these"

I'm so disenfranchised with them that I don't think I've EVER posted outside of GD, motors, music and photography... *n
