Damn straight on the colours! It should look great!
I can agree on the lowness count. As much as I love lowered cars, going back to a lowered car reminds me of what fun car parks and speed bumps are!
£332? Hmmm, How much do 2.5s sell for these days?

I love getting shiney CNC bits in the mail... All the way from Poland are these schweet adjustable top-mounts. They work out at about the same cost as the rubber type inserts from Porsche. I figured I may as well give these ago... I ordered an extra couple sets of bolts to cater for different damper shaft diameters. I'm going to find somewhere to get these anodised before I fit them, so they last and last. Test fitted: Also in the mail were all the front strut bolts I'd ordered from my local Porsche centre. For the record the part numbers are: 171 407 265 - Eccentric Screw x 2 944 343 175 00 - Eccentric Washer x2 900 082 058 02 - Lower strut bolt x 2 999 025 212 09 - Lower bolt washer x2 N 022 141 4 - Lock Nut x 4 N 040 108 1 - spindle to brake caliper bolt x4 133 412 367 - sealing ring x2 - in case someone needs to order them. ;D

As part of the 2.5S engine rebuild, I'm doing a few things to try increase the output of the engine in the hopes it can get to the levels of the standard S2 - 208hp. Modest yes - but perhaps in reach with a modest budget. In fact I'd love to see 220bhp which will be the same as the series one turbo... Legend has it that even within the 944 family range, the 968 is reputed to have a much lighter crankshaft. As I'm not opening up the bottom end, the crank will stay stock - for now... After chatting to a couple of engine builders and engineers, on their advice I decided to marginally lighten the 944S flywheel and clutch pressure plate - balancing them at the same time if needed. Interestingly, the engineer who lightened my components was very surprised to find that after lightening, the two parts were not only lighter but also virtually perfectly balanced. Here are a couple of before and after comparisons - unfortunately in my enthusiasm I forgot to weigh them before I charged off to the engineer! While the 8v 2.5 flywheel can be lightened significantly by skimming virtually all of the back of the flywheel, the 16v flywheel cannot be lightened near as much. If you compare the pic above it's obvious that the back of the flywheel has had a good few mm removed without compromising the integrity or effecting the grub screws for the sensors. The engineer removed material from the outer ring face and the inner recessed section. The front face of the flywheel has been skimmed ever so slightly to prepare it for the new clutch friction plate (which I've yet to source). If you've ever handled a flywheel and clutch pressure plate you'll know that they are HEAVY bits of kit. I can gladly say that they feel significantly lighter than before. I'm happy about that and it will be interesting see the end results on the dyno when compared to stock.

Another way to get it closer to get the cam timing spot on, which can cost an S or S2 quite a chunk of power .

After giving the front suspension some attention it was back into the garage to remove all the bits off the front of the replacement engine - there's a lot going on there with cam and balance shaft belts, numerous gears and rollers, and a lurking spiders nest! As there's no history with this engine I have no idea when the belts and water pump were done last, but I had suspicions it wasn't any time in the recent past judging by the general condition of this motor. I really want this engine to be a top performer so all this needs to be renewed and refreshed. The water pump was in a nasty state so I'm very glad I got it off! please do share any inside secrets ChasR! I can't say that I have any secrets (far from it). Just what I have seen and experienced myself . My old S2 shifted well with the cam timing seen to during the 'belt swap. A shame about the water pump as they are not the cheapest of things! So come on, when are you putting this back together!

While I've been waiting on parts to come back from powder, I've prepped and freshened up the engine bay: I did get these powdered bits today tho - keeping the eighties disco theme alive! Anti roll bars: Clamps: And the new clutch plate arrived too - some amazon vouchers made this a relatively 'cheap' purchase from design911 on the mighty Amazon.co.uk: Once all the seals and other engine parts have arrived I can start to put The Hoff back together - April is fast approaching!

Oh, this looks quite familiar and interesting as well. May I ask, where you ordered the camber plates? I've got bottom mount ones which made it hard to slam my 924. A little advice for you: Golf 1 front suspension fits very well and helps you to get lower.

Hi, I got them on eBay - CASTER Porshe 924 944 968 Camber plates top mount pillow ball ADJUSTABL DOMLAGER r.ebay.com/Ua0KCcThey're very nicely made but not anodised (not surprising considering the low price) which is why I've sent mine off for Anodising.

Thanks for that. If I'd go for these my new set up will be to low.

The spring centre clutch plate should make quite a difference in the clutch operation depending on how bad the stock clutch was (if it was a rubber centred item). With my S2 it no longer juddered badly around town . Those powdercoated goodlies should spruce up the underside nicely. Great to see such level of attention going into the car:).

Thanks Chas - I'm itching to get all the bits together and get it rebuilt. A big bag of seals arrived from my OPC but there's still stuff out at powder coating...I'm hoping tomorrow will yield some more goodies.
As for the clutch - I've got two rubber centered ones, the best of which would be good enough but for how long? I figure while I'm in there I may as well fit the newer type and forget about it for a few years.

Right - finally got all the bits back from the powder coaters and... My newly anodised top mounts back: Got a satin finish but won't corrode like a ships bottom over the years to come. Pressing in the bearings was a right pain but they're all ready to fit. Unpacking all the freshly powered parts was better than any Christmas recently! I laid them all out on the table and started to assemble the struts after cleaning up the threads etc. It's going to be a busy weekend!

Didn't get as much done in the cold garage as I'd have liked to but the struts are now fully assembled and ready to mount into the nice clean wheel wells: Stoked to see these together at last! Besides cleaning the wheel wells and inner arch liners I did fit these nice swanky green braided brakes lines from Hel Performance:

Hmm, I wonder whether Miles from Pug Racing uses HEL to make his brake lines. Stainless fittings non? The ends on one of them look as if they spin independently of the flexible hose, a Godsend when the union seizes onto the hard line (at least this was the case on the Peugeot), or if you need to position the hose in such a way so that it does not bend/coil up on itself (MGBs when running most generic telescopic dampers on the front).
