I've just manged 15mins of tinkering with Kateis Herald as the battery was flat when I wanted to use it early this morning It was a bit dodgy last winter and the car hadn't been used since early in the week so its just not holding its charge. Anyway, tinkering reminded me of the couple of small jobs that reallty need doing so I'll be ordering a couple of things later/tomorrow to try and giev us a reasonably trouble free winter (I hope) As for why I was going out at an unearthly hour of a Sunday morning I shall do a seperate post later on but today wasn't a total loss, car wise

mine was far from as productive as it needs to be this thread got me so fired up on friday that i started on the loft pronto. Only got 2 boards done and tash came home which put an end to that. a big 'planning' discussion for the 411 was held at the pub on friday. that car WILL be done soon! lol sat was a slow start, but eventually got out to the barn and made a start with the clearing. Most of my tools are now organised which is a real bonus. Then i looked at the benz quickly on sunday. Fitted the new bonnet pull. Looked at the exhaust and simply didnt have the motivation so the one job that NEEDED to get done .... didnt

Ggrrrrr. Well my tinkering yesterday has come to nothing. I took the battery out of the Herald and stuck it on charge last night. Fitted it back in this morning and the car still won't start so it might be that the starter is knackered insted It just about manages to crank the engine over very slowly. Katie's had to take the Sun-tor to work instead and it'll probably be Wednesday before I can try and sort the Herald out

I was relatively productive, took the Mk1 out for a few good drives on Sat and Sun, all working fine... Noisy? - check Uncomfortable? - check Fun? - definitely! Sunday I gave the Lupo a service as planned and while changing the oil, filters, plugs etc was mentally sizing up whether the 1400 16v engine would be a good fit and power upgrade in a Mk1 Golf or Polo, verdict - yes!

Nick and I this weekend achieved the following:
1. Put Nissan Pickup chassis in the type 25 and crudely held it together to make further measurments and calculations. (Will create a seperate thread about this soon!)
2. Attached security lights to side of my barn using two chrome 2CV headlights. Nice.
3. Purchased one barrel (72 pints) of fine local ale and set up in aforementioned barn.
4. Wired mixer / CD player into 70's Wurlitzer organ for funk-tastic tunes.
5. Had many people over for fantastic (and messy) housewarming / barn party. Heater finally turned off at 4:30am.
6. Cooked massive breakfast for several hungover people, who were found next morning randomly draped over various sofas / floors etc.
7. Went to pick up an 80's custom roofchopped featured Morris Minor as Nick's new daily. Had sat in garage for 8 years and needs a little work, but it is such a good chop with great body mods - dark blue with white scollops.
I have photos of all the above, but my damned server appears to have fallen off the interent this weekend. Will update as soon as possible.
All in all, a successful few days...
Edit:
8. Started to fit the Skyline struts and brakes to the Datsun wagon (thanks for the parts Nigel)

well...saturday ended up with the A4 getting its oil changed, and an 8ball being drilled and tapped for a gear knob, her who owns the car cleaned it while i minced about drinking tea. Friend came over with his bike to go for a blast but in the end cleaned his bike too. Short (!) trip to get fireworks turned into a cruise about scraping stuff in the scorpilow and the purchase of flagons of dirty cider. Vast pot of chili cooked, two fires started (i love starting fires) and cider consumed..that was saturday. Sunday was a messy trippy cider hangover that involved chili and curry for breakfast with fried nan. Missus decides that now she has a new job she definitley wants new car so off we trot to look at cars...which ended up being sofas..quality turn up was discovering asda were selling pies reduced to 10p so i bought er..some... Retroness of weekend = 0 fun of weekend = 12

So would people say this has been a typical weekend? Or have you attempted more retro stuff than usual... Rev D is exempt from this answer on account of his herculian effort and overnight engine swap skills. I only ask because it seems like we've all done loads, and if this is a usual stint then we're all doing really well. So good work us. I'll download some pics in a minute and show you what I did.

this thread has motivated me massively, although the weekend wasnt as productive as i usually am.
the upshot is that this weekend is now planned as a complete overhaul on the 411 to get it through the mot.
3 men, 2 welders, 1 weekend
anything could happen! ;D

Although I know only a couple of people personally it's made me realise we're all in the same boat really. Or lock-up, driveway... garage.

My enthusiasm went as far as relieving myself of £170 at GSF Hitchin for a new drive shaft for the Bint Estate. After that heroic effort I decided a weekend of trailing around after the woman was in order Gah

I changed the interior on my car for a much plusher, comfortable black one (so it's triple black now ;D, pics up soon) and demonstrated to a following BMW X5 the Dolly's characteristic understeer to snap oversteer handling ;D Oh and went to Flame and Thunder too
